Episode 8 is a sweet end to the Amazon series. It deals with old age love, something that most do not comprehend and not many understand. “The Race Grows Sweeter Near Its Final Lap” presents Margot’s (Jane Alexander) story — at the age of 70, she takes a keen interest in Kenji while out running. She finds it cute that he is struggling to keep pace and finish the race.

I enjoyed the theory that when you fall in love at such a late age, it feels the same as young love, but you make decisions quicker and cut the bulls—. Young couples tend to hold back sentences and feelings and wait for the “right moment”, but Episode 8 presents scenes where Kenji (James Saito) openly asks Margot if he can get a hotel room with a single bed. There’s no skirting around the issue — it’s clear they both want to sleep in the same bed. A younger couple may get two beds, and then only use one bed.

But the best take from Episode 8 is that being older does not mean that getting into a relationship with someone means less fun — if anything it means more fun, as you live knowing there is only so much time left to enjoy each other’s company.

Episode 8 at the same time is tragic, as Margot attends Kenji’s funeral and has to watch another person she loves leave her life in physical form, forever.
