There’s more drama afoot in the Quinn household with the pressure of Christmas taking over.

In Merry Happy Whatever Episode 2, Joy (Elizabeth Ho) catches Sean in a lie; it was easy to assume that he may be cheating on her. Well, it actually turns out he has lost his job so rather than coming home at the usual time, he snuck off to the cinema to kill some hours. The issue is he does not know how to tell his father who is usually disapproving of the “man not able to provide for his family”. When he eventually tells Don, it is abundantly clear that their deceased mother was better at these conversations.

It’s all about Caroling in Episode 2, with the family forced to go out and sing the favorites. Initially, Matt was not participating in the carols due to a great opportunity to gig, but he has second thoughts — after consulting with the secret in-law’s group, he needs to find a way to impress Don. Emmy is not happy, however, believing Matt is lacking ambition — she turned down a brilliant job opportunity earlier that day, orchestrated by her needy father.

Don keeps stepping his foot in it in Episode 2 by inadvertently coming out with pregnancy innuendos that keeps upsetting Nancy. His daughter is desperate to be pregnant but she is struggling to conceive.

Near the second half of Episode 2, Matt pretends he is still suffering from concussion and tries matchmaking Nancy and Don to try and win Don’s approval. Of course, this backfires as Don offends her by saying Matt is a failed musician — Nancy’s father was a failed musician. The episode ends with the family “Caroling” and Kayla being a control freak on the arrangements.

Merry Happy Whatever Season 1, Episode 2, “Harmony” was an episode of near misses for all the characters as the Quinn family become even more dysfunctional.
