Summary

Little America Episode 7 is about clutching your opportunities and running with it. “The Rock” opens up with Faraz listening to the specials read out to him by a waiter at a restaurant. He asks the waiter if they serve quail eggs and attempts to sell this specific type of egg. He continues to try to sell these eggs.
When he returns home, he watches Shark Tank and asks his wife Yasmin to watch it with him. Faraz is clearly a family man and asks his departing son to join them as well. They notice a mouse scurrying on the floor and Yasmin hints that they need a new apartment. Faraz is concerned that his son Behrad is going to leave home — “Iranians don’t leave until they are married”.
But Yasmin has other ideas against her very stubborn and ambitious husband; she suggests getting rid of the rodents properly first before thinking of moving. Faraz is excited about his son’s band’s first concert and then heads out and starts looking at new properties. He wants a great home and keeps reminding his estate agent of his great credit score; he reminds the estate agent that he had a great life in Iran but that he came to America to give his family opportunities. When he hears the price of the first house that is suggested, he backs out immediately.
The estate agent takes him to a new apartment and he requests a property within his price range. He decides to try and build on the land and buys space that has a huge rock on it.
In the next scene, the absurdity of his ambitions spill out to his family and friends; he celebrates with them but they keep asking about the rock.
Faraz starts working on the land straight away and he and Yasmin manage to obtain blueprints of the history of the land. His son attempts to re-engage with Faraz about his concert but Faraz is too concerned about arranging a company to blow up the large rock.
With the rock becoming a nuisance, Faraz is frustrated and fears losing Behrad due to the red tape around the rock. Yasmin tells Faraz that he is pushing Behrad away by holding on to him so tight — “Treat him like one of your projects”. Yasmin tells Behrad about the rock explosion and she explains that Faraz did not mean to miss his concert. Behrad claims that Faraz is living in a fantasy about the land he just bought. His mother Yasmin refutes that idea, listing his many successes in Iran and the USA.
It’s the day of the site explosion. After the explosion, the company tells Faraz the rock is too big. Faraz spends all night on the site looking for a solution. When he returns home, Faraz is upset and breaks down to his wife — “Did I make a mistake?”. Meanwhile, Behrad sees outlines of his father’s plans for the new house, including the drum room.
Behrad takes a chunk of rock and tells his father there’s a long way to go and they get to work. While at the site helping, Behrad tells his father that he is going to rent an apartment with his friends. Faraz accepts the situation but states he is still going to build him a room.
Little America Season 1, Episode 7, “The Rock” closes 3 months later; the family has a picnic on the land. Credits confirm that Faraz is still trying to build his dream house but in a different property on a smaller rock.
Sometimes small failures make for great stories.
