Summary
Episode 6 is a Ben-centric episode, giving us some context to his rivalry with Devi.
Never Have I Ever Season 1, Episode 6 is a Ben-centric chapter with Andy Samberg narrating — apparently, Ben’s father is his lawyer.
Ben felt on top of the world until Devi went against him on the Model UN trip.
He’s wondering if he imagined having a nice conversation with Devi.
Ben feeling lonely
When Ben returns home, he plays video games, writes on Reddit posts, and plays basketball on his own — there doesn’t appear to be anyone in the house apart from the cleaner. He did have two friends, but they ended up in a different school — he is left with his girlfriend Shirs, who isn’t very attentive. Due to his father bailing out at a basketball game, he tries to offer a ticket to Trent to go with him, but he refuses.
He also tries to speak to Devi about the game, but she’s still annoyed at him. He ends up giving his ticket to his cleaner who goes without him.
While feeling lonely, Ben thinks he has met a new friend on Reddit. However, when he meets the man, he’s way older than him, and he asks Ben to do weird things, like blow slowly on a pizza slice, so Ben walks out.
Ben sees a dermatologist, who happens to be Devi’s mother, Nalini, about a breakout on his face. While she treats him, Ben breaks down in tears as he realizes he hasn’t had tea with anyone for a long time. Nalini invites Ben for dinner, and Devi is fuming about it, having plenty of arguments with her mother.
Over dinner, the Model UN trip comes into the conversation, so Ben starts calling Devi out for ruining his trip, but he changes his mind and praises her.
While cleaning up, Devi asks Ben why he cried in her mother’s office. Ben explains that his father always ignores him and his girlfriend does not care. Devi admits to not having sex with Paxton. Ben confesses that he got catfished by a 50-year-old man from Reddit.
Devi and Ben bond, for once, genuinely, and Ben feels less lonely.
I think Episode 6 was good background on a character who irritates Devi daily.
