How does Absentia season 3, episode 6, “In Quo Ego Vado Vos” open?
Flashbacks show Cal accidentally shot a kid while on duty for the military and then he wakes up. Emily joins him on the train and there’s a warm feeling between them — almost like they’ve missed each other. They’ve booked a single cabin together with bunk beds. Emily is curious as to why Julianne let Cal go to Europe. She knows there is more to Cal being there and it is clearly irking her as she sips her glass of wine.
Refuge and a shotgun
Meanwhile, Flynn and his grandfather have found refuge in the middle of nowhere to keep them safe until all this is over. The grandfather prepares his shotgun in case he needs it. Flynn looks quite shocked at the scenario they are in, adding to the tension of the situation.
The torture continues
As for Nick, he continues to be tortured. The woman in the white lab coat tells him to stop being foolish. She claims his colleagues will not be able to save him. They are electrocuting him now. You have to give it to Nick — he has great resolve.
Pretending to be engaged
Back on the train, Emily talks about how she used to want to be a ballerina as the pair drink. Cal and Emily pretend to be an engaged couple as they are suspicious of the waiter. Emily ruffles Cal’s hair as the waiter looks. Cal rings Julianne and tells her he hasn’t found Emily yet. In the carriage, Emily is attacked. Cal is then attacked — Emily manages to get away from her attacker, knocking him unconscious. Emily then helps Cal and they throw both men off the train. There’s never a dull scene between these two characters — a spin-off series with just these two would work.
Cal opens up
At the midway point of Absentia season 3, episode 6, “In Quo Ego Vado Vos” and back in the carriage, Emily and Cal undress, both clearly injured but look at each other’s bodies intently. Emily checks out one of Cal’s scars and then apologizes as he moves away. A flashback shows Cal on duty again.
He tells Emily he got the scar in the Middle East and that a young boy accidentally crossed his path when he was shooting. The mother attacked Cal with a knife which gave him the scar; his boss killed the mother and then demanded that Cal finished off the boy. He was blackmailed — “Save the boy or save my friend”. We now understand the guilt that cripples Cal and how he understands the monster inside him. He saved his friend.
Emily holds his hands and kisses him. The pair have sex. This was a long time coming between both characters — their despair and lack of trust for the world brought them closer together over many episodes. As morning dawns, Emily whispers to him, “I love you”.
This is goodbye
As for Nick, he’s still being tortured. The white lab coat woman tells him he is being moved and says goodbye. Meanwhile, Emily and Cal jump off the train before it is stopped and searched. There’s no time for either of them to reflect on their romantic night — it’s back to business.
How does Absentia season 3, episode 6, “In Quo Ego Vado Vos” end?
Emily and Cal hike across the land until they reach a facility. They infiltrate the building. Emily sees all the medical equipment and vials and starts having traumatic flashbacks — the tank of water also doesn’t help. They see photos on the wall and Emily recognizes one of the women — we believe she said she is one of organ harvesting victims in Boston. Emily looks through the photos while Nick is placed in a lorry with other people that are kidnapped. Emily realizes that the facility is empty. There’s a suggestion that Nick is now part of the organ harvesting ring.
