In Season 2, we see how Lila came to be under the wing of The Handler. Her parents were brutally murdered and The Handler finds her in a cupboard and trains her up for The Commission. Lila sees The Handler as her mother, referencing her as a parent throughout the second season. At some stage in Season 2, Lila finds a file on her parents that shows the order to kill them and it’s manipulated in such a way that suggests that The New Handler ordered Five to carry it out. Did Five kill Lila’s parents in The Umbrella Academy Season 2?

Was it the New Handler that ordered the assassination of her parents?

No — sadly, the woman she had trusted all her life had ordered for her parents to be murdered. The Handler does not really care about Lila but needed her to clean up the mess she had found herself in. She needed Lila’s powers. The Handler changed the files so it looks like her successor ordered the killings so she could keep Lila under her wing.

Did Five commit the murders?

Yes, but he was just following orders when he used to work for The Handler. When Lila confronts Five about it in an intense final episode, he explains that it was who she deems as her mother that commanded the order which changes Lila’s perspective entirely. You have to feel sorry for Lila, as she’s lived most her life as a lie and sought vengeance when the person she needed to get her payback for was by her side. She’s never really had parents, which would explain why she is so determined to cling on to the bond she has with Diego — he cares about her genuinely.

Does Lila still want to kill Five?

At the end of Season 2, it’s suggested that Lila wants to be part of her actual family — The Umbrella Academy — so no, she doesn’t want to kill Five anymore.
