Summary
PEN15 season 2, episode 5 continues to wedge a hole between Anna and Maya as Maura’s influence grows.

The opening
Anna rings Maya and asks her if she’s excited about the sleepover party. She then asks her how much she loves Maura. Maya doesn’t know Maura is on the phone as she’s about to say “4” but when she learns she is on the phone she changes it to “Fo sho 10”. Later, Anna asks if she was going to say “4”. Maya raises that sometimes both girls leave her out. Maya flagrantly does not like Maura which makes an interesting, tense dynamic between her and Anna that was not present before.
Maura is a little annoyed
Anna and Maya head to the sleepover and Maura already has friends over. They play a prank where Maya comes out of a bag but Maura and the others don’t find it funny. Maura is also unimpressed that they are late to the party.
Stay up all night
After Maya has finished in the bathroom she has to look for the others. Maura tells the others that they will be staying up all night. They play “Truth and dare” which quickly turns to talking about boys. Maya talks about what happened with Brandt. Maura talks about how Maya was obsessed with Brandt but she denies it.
The girls lock Maya in the bathroom and turn off the lights which really upsets her. Afterwards, the girls all attempt to stay awake. It’s a fail but Maya and Anna end up talking to each other for the rest of the night. Later in the depths of early morning, Maya reveals she’s on her period after an intense five minutes of the girls investigating who’s blood is on the pad.
The ending
Maya gets her mother to pick her up as she is upset — she believes Anna hates her for lying about their periods. At Maura’s house, Anna learns that Maura lied about the best friend she had — the doctor. The best friend was from a magazine. Maura gets upset and wants the magazine back. As the episode ends, Maya and Anna promise to not keep secrets from each other. PEN15 season 2, episode 5 continues to wedge a hole between Anna and Maya as Maura’s influence grows.
