This recap of Netflix’s Dash & Lily season 1, episode 7, “Christmas” contains significant spoilers.

We recapped every episode — check out the archive.

The opening

Lily wakes up on Christmas morning, and she’s super excited, but then she’s reminded it isn’t going to be the same this year — however, she’s excited to learn Dash’s name. Lily visits Lilian and wonders if she’s got the notebook — she was expecting the notebook at Lilian’s house, but it isn’t there…

From here, everything starts to fall apart.

A connector of words

Suddenly, Lily remembers the hint “a connector of words” — she knows his name and then knows he was at the party. Lily asks Boomer if she’s wrong and if Dash left the party with his ex. Boomer tells her that she isn’t wrong. Lily heads to a bar with some friends and gets drunk. She talks about how Sofia is perfect, and that Dash is too good for her.

Again, the Netflix series shows such low self-esteem, and it represents younger generations of today who struggle to find confidence and happiness within themselves.

What really happened

Edgar turns up after Lily texts him about kissing. At the bar, they kiss after Edgar shows the mistletoe. Dash then shows up at the bar with the notebook and boot and looks for Lily. Episode 7 shows a flashback of Dash and Sofia — he stops kissing her and tells her he doesn’t want to restart their relationship. Sofia tells Dash that he is comfortable and familiar, but he can tell he has changed for Lily.

This is the typical love story where characters make assumptions and u-turns in the very last minute.

Meeting drunk Lily

On Christmas morning, Sofia tells Dash that he should meet Lily for Christmas. The mommy app tells Dash where they last saw the red boot. Dash approaches Lily in the pub. He’s upset because she’s with Edgar. Lily mentions Sofia, but then she looks like she is about to throw up. Dash offers to look after her.

Their first argument

Dash is furious that she was with Edgar and that explains he’s no longer with Sofia — but Lily is drunk, in a taxi; this is the worst time for this conversation. Lily mentions that Edgar was her first kiss, but she wanted it to be Dash. She tells him he’s nothing like Boomer described and expected Dash to be kinder.

Dash drops Lily off at Lilian’s house. Lilian tells Dash not to give up, but he tells her he doesn’t want to play games anymore.

The ending

Lily’s grandfather picks Lily up, and he’s mad that she’s drunk. When she returns home, the whole family is there, and they surprise her. She throws up in her boot. Meanwhile, Dash confronts Boomer and tells him that everything is ruined because he didn’t tell him that he knew Lily and storms off, leaving his best friend on Christmas Day.

Lily’s parents tell her that they need to move to Fiji in a week, but she doesn’t want to leave as they belong in Manhattan. Her mother tells her it is happening, with or without her support.

Lily reads the notebook and Dash has left her a message — he explains how they set each other up to fail, and he blames himself for believing in a Christmas dream. He tells her “game over” and that it’s better if they move on.

Dash & Lily season 1, episode 7 makes one last throw of the dice to move obstacles in the way of the two lead characters — it’s predictable, but the Christmas feel makes it worthwhile.
