Throughout the romantic comedy, Erica finds herself stuck in a rock and a hard place. Due to her career woes, she finds herself taking a singing gig on an exotic holiday resort, and as part of the role, she has to sing at weddings. Her personal troubles turn horrifying when she learns her ex-fiance Jason is getting married at the resort to a woman (Beverly) he only met a year ago, soon after they broke up.
But then there’s another added element to all this. Before Erica and Jason find out that they are on the same island (and that Erica will sing at the wedding), Erica befriends his brother, Caleb. So not only is Erica dealing with heartbreak, she’s flirting with a forbidden romance. In fact, any romantic possibility with either man at this stage is forbidden.
As the wedding draws nearer, Jason begins to doubt whether he chose the right woman. He persistently wants to talk to Erica about it, even on the evening of the bachelor and bachelorette parties. Meanwhile, Caleb keeps on slyly pushing his romantic intentions.
As we reach the final act, Jason has made a decision, but before he tells Erica, he finds his brother in Erica’s holiday lodge and assumes the worst, so he storms off. When Erica runs after Jason, he tells her that he loves Beverly, and he’s afraid of messing it all up. Erica reassures him that he will be fine and that he needs to take one more step to marry the woman he loves.
But then disaster strikes; from a distance, Jason’s mother sees Jason and Erica together, and she recognizes the woman as Jason’s ex-fiance. Beverly had no idea that Erica was her ex-fiance from a year ago after all this time; she feels betrayed by both of them. Erica has spent time befriending Beverly, which makes the situation worse.
Netflix’s Resort to Love – ending explained
With the wedding canceled and the drama intensifying, Beverly is transported away from the resort, but Erica manages to get into the same vehicle. Erica tells Beverly that Jason loves her and that the last thing they expected is to be at the same holiday resort. She states she and Jason were not meant for each other and demands that Beverly marries the man of her dreams. Erica is letting go while finding closure at the same time.
And so, the wedding happens; Jason and Beverly get married, and Erica sings at the wedding after finally finding the closure she needed. She’s at peace and happy. After she sings the main wedding song for the newlyweds, she runs up to Caleb and kisses him — maybe, in the end, Erica found love after all. It’s a bit weird that it’s Jason’s brother, but we can brush past that.
