Summary

Challenges, crazy races, and supercars. This reality series shows how drag racing is done in the UAE.

Netflix reality series The Fastest season 1 was released on the streaming service on November 23, 2021.

Netflix’s The Fastest is the first reality series about drag racing in the middle east. There are six episodes with running times between half an hour and 45 minutes, which makes for a great binge watch. Audio and subtitles are available in English for this show.

Narrated by Saudi actor and comedian Tarek Al-Harbi and featuring real-life drag racers, this series is exciting, entertaining, and educational. It is a great representation of the Arab obsession with cars. The cars are fabulous, fast, and furious. The races are in exciting locations, such as an airport runway and the camera angles give you stunning aerial views of the races. Visually it is stunning.

What makes this show unique compared to other racing shows is that all the racers are from the Middle East. The only problematic thing is that the different racers are thrown into either a drag race or a drift race. Whilst this is entertaining it’s not a fair competition, so I wouldn’t take it too seriously, but as a wild, competitive show-off.

Each chapter introduces a set of racers, which includes both drift and drag car individuals — Ali Maksheed, Ahmed Abdul Raheem Sarhan, Abdul Aziz Al Yeish, Cynthia-Anne Lyane. As a female viewer, this was interesting and powerful to see a female racer. The racers are from the KSA, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Syria, all fuelled by their passion for racing and the 50,000 dollar cash prize! As the episodes develop we learn how and why each racer got into racing, how it has shaped and affected their lives and why they’re on the show competing.

After every race, the weakest and slowest are eliminated from the competition. With high standards and emotions, there is a lot of fire and drama. Wild cards are added throughout the show, adding new drivers and competition.

There are challenges, my favorite being the dune buggy challenge and then a final race track for the top three to claim the prize. Overall this is a great watch. If you’re a fan of racing, cars, drama, and adrenaline I recommend this series. I was entertained, I learned a lot about the racing culture and that there can be just as much drama in a racing reality series as there can be a romantic reality series.
