As we reach the end of season 1, it reaches a natural conclusion for the fractured couple but ends with a twist for a possible season 2. 

Decoupled season 1, episode 8 recap – the finale and ending explained

Episode 8 begins with the family heading to Goa, and Shruti looks nervous. Mr. Lee texts her that he’s on the way to Goa. There’s a decoupling party to attend with family and friends. At the resort, Arya tries to make amends with Masha. However, she sees his wife and calls her a “beautiful woman” before walking off. Meanwhile, Mr. Lee tells Shruti that he’s booked a presidential suite.

When Shruti gets to the suite, Mr. Lee talks to her by video call, which disappoints her as she expected him to be there. He offers her a hedge fund and wants her to move to London. The annual compensation is lucrative. She has a decision to make. Meanwhile, Arya has sex with Masha. They are in a blissful stage of their romance.

Arya then tells Masha he has to go as Shruti has organized the decoupling party. At the dinner table, guests want to go through the history of their marriage, the good and bad stuff. Arya talks about a time when he fell in love with Shruti. There’s a wonder if they overreacted to getting a divorce. Their driver stands up to discuss the history of their marriage and how they used to be inseparable, but then the chatting reduced and fighting increased until one day there was silence, meaning the marriage had stopped.

The ending

The party then moves to the decoupling ceremony. The couple agrees they want to divorce and fling their rings. But there’s a sense of happiness between them that they are doing the right thing. Their daughter smiles at them, realizing that she’ll have happier parents now.

Afterward, Arya and Shruti give an interview about their separation. They talk about the warmness of being co-parents. During the interview, Arya learns that Shruti is moving to London with their daughter. Arya looks furious only to be finding out. There’s more trouble ahead that could potentially bring on a second season.
