Georgina Rodriguez, is she more than a footballer’s wife?

Netflix has released I am Georgina. This series was released on the star’s 28th birthday (happy birthday) and this review is written by a jealous 29-year-old. (Kidding, only slightly bitter.) In this series, we follow Georgina Rodriguez, who is a mother, influencer, businesswoman, and partner to the famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo. The series is in Spanish and there are subtitles available.

Through the six episodes, the Spanish model takes us on her journey and how her life has changed in the past 5 years. We get to see behind the glitz, glamor, and red carpets and for all Ronaldo fans out there, he is in the show. This is almost a rags to riches scenario, how she went from selling the designer clothes to wearing them, and hey, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. There is a trend for famous people to allow series to be made about their “everyday life” and a want for the average person to watch it. It can be great escapism and good for self-reflection watching other real people.

The couple met whilst Georgina was working as a sales assistant and it was love at first sight. “I’d get there on the bus and leave in a Bugatti,” says Georgina, but the relationship ended up costing the sales assistant her job. (Which I doubt she really cared about.) Is this a dream, to be working a typical job and be picked up by a hot, famous millionaire? Maybe for some.

I don’t know how beneficial these shows are — they’re one big influencer trip, and I don’t feel inspired or informed watching this, but I do feel entertained. Someone as high profile as Christiano Ronaldo sharing his life and probably being more personal and authentic here than in his interviews is definitely watchable, although I do feel a lot will watch this for him, and maybe him only. There is no mention of the rape allegations made against him in 2005 and 2009, which were later withdrawn; nor of tensions in her family amid claims from relatives the model has shut them out. So the show feels a little airbrushed and clearly made to showcase their seemingly perfect life.

The series shows off Georgina’s lavish spending — I do wish sometimes they showcase some charity work they do, rather than what they fill their life with, materialistically. Even so, this series is full of laughter, love, and light-hearted humor. Their passions, their family life, their friends, and the effort that goes into their careers.

Very much in a similar style to Keeping up with the Kardashians, we have a mixture of interviews, fly on the wall documentary style, and raw footage. We see how these famous people handle their daily lives, including their children and social media accounts. They do have a big family, which is set to get bigger as Georgina is pregnant with twins, and best of luck to them all.

If you’re one of Georgina’s 5 million Instagram fans or Ronaldo’s 369 million Instagram followers, you will certainly love this series. If you have an expensive taste or a desire for the high life, you can really see what is out there to offer in the world of money. I would also recommend watching if you’re looking for something fun and easy to watch in the evenings.
