Devotion, a Story of Love and Desire season 1, episode 6 – the ending explained

A lot of the story delves into the writing talent of Sofia, so it is no surprise that it opens up with Carlo presenting a copy of her new book that will be launched by his publishing firm. Meanwhile, Margherita enjoys a run with her lover “to relieve sexual tensions” between them.

But the first sign of residue love starts when Carlo calls Margherita — her mother is in hospital after suffering from an ankle fracture. Carlo offers to stay, and the separated couple appear relaxed for once, with no tension seeping in from the past. Margherita noticeably has that spark back in her eye, especially when her partner Marcello turns up; she senses that Carlo is jealous and desires her, and she seems to like it. Noticeably, both characters do not seem to have a firm love life, enjoying more than one sexual partner. In the middle of the night, Margherita reads up on Sofia’s new book and Carlo’s publishing firm. It’s curiosity, not anger or sadness.

The next day, Margherita and Carlo talk about their encounter with their respective friends. Both sets of friends can smell rekindled flames.

As we edge closer to the end of the finale, Sofia’s book launch night arrives, hosted by Carlo. Margherita sneakily attends and watches from the back, observing the speeches from both Sofia and Carlo before walking out. She seems happy for Carlo. And then, Margherita launches her art studio — this is a dream of hers, and she gives a speech about how he got here and wants to celebrate a new start.

The ending

The ending of episode 6 brings hope for the future.

Carlo rings Margherita, and he tells her he wishes he was there for her studio launch. He imagines what she’s wearing, which makes her smile. She sees him outside, across the road, and they look longingly at each other; it’s apparent that they’ve missed each other sorely. They meet outside, and Carlo admits he has thought about her a lot. He admits being with her meant he learned a lot, and he’s used those experiences to reach his objectives since they broke up. He then tells her that he’s proud of her, which clearly touches her heart. Margherita kisses him before heading back inside. He asks her, “now what?” to which she replies, “I don’t know. Let’s see what you come up with.”

Maybe that’s what this couple needed. Maybe they needed that desire back. The fire in their bellies returned, and Margherita knows she’s once again lusted for by the man she loves, and both of them have made massive moves in their careers.
