Who is Liz in season 1 of Life & Beth - hulu series

This article, “who is Liz” contains spoilers regarding Hulu’s Life & Beth season 1.

Read the review of Season 1.

Liz is a character seen as a teenager and as an adult. She is a supporting character, but her story is essential. Liz has unusually used a device to describe some of the motivations and decisions made by the Hulu streaming comedy’s main character, Beth. However, it’s not like she is insignificant. Her character appears throughout the series in flashbacks as teenage Liz (played by Grace Powers). As an adult, she appears in only two episodes, but they represent anxiety and closure for Beth.

So, that begs the question…

Who is Liz in season 1 of Life & Beth?

Liz is an almost forty-something-year-old woman who lives on Long Island. She is married and has a son. Since high school, Beth had not seen her when they had a falling out. Liz, as a teenager, was Beth’s rock and salvation from a home life where her father was an alcoholic and her mother was very critical. They later divorced. Please, do not worry. Beth still loved them both.

What does Liz do?

We see Liz be Beth’s best friend and sounding board as a teenager. At a party, Lavar approaches Liz to see if Beth wants to hook up with Bobby. Of course, Liz hooks that up. After Beth and Bobby kiss and hold hands, she thinks they will go to prom together. A local mean girl tells Beth that he is going to the dance with someone else. Liz steps into shutting the Rachel McAdams wannabe down. They are like sisters and are always there for each other.

Unfortunately, Liz writes a letter to Beth’s mother, Jane. She does this after learning her father is leaving her mom for Jane. Liz asks Beth to give it to Jane and makes her promise not to read it. Of course, she does. Beth becomes angry, pulls Liz out of her class, and they have a physical altercation in the hallway.

As an adult, Beth spots Liz at the fair. Things are icy, and they go off on a tangent because the child Beth had a verbal altercation with what turns out to be her former best friend’s child. While this ends the conversation, she seeks Liz out at her job, and they have a surprisingly warm conversation and talk about what happened between them. In contrast, they have closure. Liz denies Beth’s request if they can be friends again because she doesn’t see it happening. Liz, though, suggests that Beth let go of all the hate and issues she has had with her mother.
