Throughout this season, Asli has been the hunter. Will She get everything she wants? What will success mean for her? Well, we find out in an exhilarating finale.

As the Crow Flies (2022) season 1, episode 8 recap – the ending explained

Episode 8 opens with Asli looking over a seemingly unconscious and bloody-headed Lale. Her colleague tells her to go home, and he takes care of Lale. Lale tells the colleague she doesn’t want to go to the police regarding this incident, stating there are “plenty of Aslis.” She seems to accept that this happens when you reach the top. You get hunted.

The next day, Asli has an unexpected meeting with Gul. Gul asks Asli “what she wants,” but she’s unsure what to say. Gul tells her to make her move to the top so she can decide on her new team. Asli is suddenly motivated to be the “new Lale” and promises her she will deliver. And so, Asli speaks to Muge, telling her that Gul has chosen her and convinces her colleague to form a mutiny against Lale to destroy her credibility. And then, Muge tells the team they will be reporting a fake story on the news — she’s setting Lale up. It’s a coup. Some employees are unsure of this plan and want to support Lale, causing fractions in the team. Muge states that anyone who isn’t on board will have their contracts terminated and will receive horrible references.

Following this, Muge’s plans are in place to bring down Lale. Meanwhile, Lale seems unaware and attempts to hide her injuries. Kenan is eager to understand what happened to her. Lale insists she is okay.

Kenan then sees Asli at work, and he’s confused because he fired her. She makes him aware that Gul hired her.

Eventually, Lale reports on the news as usual; Kenan can sense something is up as Lale unknowingly reports damaging fake news to the public regarding the government. Social media is immediately asking Lale to resign. But it turns out Lale knew it was a phony story; she tells the audience that her co-workers have set her up live on air. She expresses that she loves her job. Kenan keeps her on air. Gul desperately tries to stop the production, but Kenan and a few staff members let the show go on.

And then, Lale reveals that this will be her last show. Asli and Muge have successfully brought down Lale, but not in the way they wanted. Lale leaves a hero and well-respected. She’s applauded by the staff on the way out as Lale cuts an emotional figure, quitting her job of ten years. As she leaves the office building, Lale gets many members of the public telling her that they love her.

And then we are treated to scenes of Lale enjoying family life — happiness seems to become the foundation. No pressure, no media, no politics, and no power plays.

The ending

With Lale gone, Asli is now the news anchor. She heads into the studio stage, nerves seemingly jingling. This is her moment. She wanted this from the start when she plotted against Lale. However, as she starts her set, she sees the new interns on the side watching her — now that’s she at the top, she will be the one who is hunted. This realization has suddenly dawned on her.

The finale brings a satisfying conclusion with a couple of thought-provoking twists.
