Comedy icons and Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin host an evening of top-notch stand-up.
Netflix comedy special Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin: Ladies Night Live was released on the streaming service on June 14th, 2022.
Netflix has released the long-awaited Ladies’ Night with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. If you don’t know who Jane and Lily are, you need to rethink all your life choices as you have seriously been missing out on years of quality comedy and acting. But not to worry, their films, television series, and stand up is all over our screens for you to watch. Recently, the pair are most famous for the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, and even after they have finished their final series fans have been screaming for more. Me included.
This one hour long comedy special opens with the classic Dolly Parton hit “9 to 5″ while we watch female comedy legends hastily getting ready for the show, including the hilarious Rachel Bloom, Michelle Buteau, Cristela Alonzo, Margaret Cho, Heather McMahan, Tracey Ashley, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, and Iliza Shlesinger. Each comedian takes the stage to entertain us throughout the show, filling us with pure joy and entertainment. The comedians get roughly 3 to 5 minutes to showcase their stuff with Lily and Jane hosting and talking in between. There is definitely something in here for everyone to watch. A lot of jokes around Covid-19 and masks — which aren’t always the funniest but we do need to make light of the last, hard two years.
Coming on stage to a fierce standing ovation at the historic Hollywood Palladium, the famous duo kick things off with a feminist, empowering segment, stating this night is all about celebrating women in comedy.
What makes Lily and Jane so enjoyable to watch is that they have amazing chemistry and mutual respect that shines through. Glamorous and in glitter, these glorious women have given us a wonderful gift by sharing their stories by answering questions from fans in the audience. Including questions like “what is your favourite cheese?” and “you were in the movie 9 to 5 but how many hours do you actually work?” — so really getting deep into their personal lives.
With reference to politics, Grace and Frankie, their career and their age, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are and will forever be queens of the screen and stage, and they are not stopping. I find the pair incredibly inspirational and give me hope and strength to continue with my personal and professional goals. I highly recommend watching if you’re a fan, if you’re a comedy fan and if you’re a budding writer, actor and/or comedian.
