Nearing the end of season three, the gang discovers that Hotel Obsidian is linked to another mysterious building called Hotel Oblivion. Within this symmetrical construct lies a deadly foe, known only as The Guardian. The two warring Academies find themselves faced with no other option but to fight this enemy within the hotel once the Kugelblitz destroyed what little remained of their current universe.

In the finale, Reginald explains that to save the universe, they must kill The Guardian and find the sigil. Quickly they discover that there are, in fact, three Guardians to defeat, and each one is impossibly difficult to kill. The Guardians are the protectors of Hotel Oblivion, this portal world that is free from the apocalypse. They are armed with some nifty weaponry and many unusual attributes.

The Guardians are a formidable foe, dressed in oriental armor and sporting a rather terrifying mask. They wield an array of weapons, including an ax, a sickle, a samurai sword, and a flail (a spiky ball on a chain). Under their armor is an unusual, spine-chilling secret. Awful yellow skin, covered in deep holes. Cockroaches swarm under their skin, and once The Guardian is killed, they escape from inside the monster, plaguing the hotel.

Five kills the first Guardian with an ax to the back, which must be a weak spot. Viktor and Lila team up to defeat the second one, melting its torso. The third is a lot trickier, with the entire gang having to synch up their powers, via the sigil symbols, in order to destroy it. These beasts are horrifying individuals, truly the thing of nightmares. They manage to injure both Diego and Five but don’t actually kill any of the team. The Guardians are clearly no match to our super-humans.

It is unclear who their master is and why they were sent to guard the portal world, but Reginald hints at an ancient mythology in his final speech. While decoding the alien technology, in his own attempts to reset the universe, Reginald states that this machine they are inside was created by the creator of the universe from another dimension. It hints at an ancient civilization and inter-dimensional travel. Whatever the case, these beasts are very old, and the creator instructed them to protect their secrets at all costs.
