Maggie season 1, episode 3 recap

The episode opens with Maggie and Louise planning a double date with their new guys while Louise teaches her yoga class. During their dinner, Louise and John are all over each other like animals in heat, all while Maggie and Daniel watch and make snarky remarks from the gallery. This is where John starts to comment to Maggie about how hard it must be for her to see him with Louise because of their breakup. No matter how often she tells him it was one date, he lets her down gently.

Ben and his sister Amy have a conflict in this episode. He asks Amy if he likes Jessie after proofreading his sister’s wedding announcement and whittling the paper down from ten to six pages. Ben asks why not have his girlfriend do the hair for Amy’s wedding? She tries to avoid the question but finally lets him know. Amy does not want her to do it because of two things. One, they break up often. The second is the weird way they moved right underneath Maggie’s apartment.

Meanwhile, Louise breaks up with John briefly because when they talk about her relationship with Maggie, she makes a face and plays a dumb song about a dog. She misreads this as he will hurt her, or their relationship has no future. While Maggie tries to work on her poker face, Daniel stops by with Chinese food, and a fortune cookie reminds her of Ben. She rescinds going on another date with Daniel and tells him they may be moving too fast.

The ending

Maggie talks with her father. He makes a good point about letting her friends make and learn from their own mistakes. He tells her how they allowed Maggie to make her own mistakes so she could learn from them. She should do the same for her friends. So, when she sees that John breaks up with our sweet Louise and tells her it is not him, it is you, she allows nature to take its course. And he also adds how he will not say anything to her and how she keeps avoiding texts from a guy she likes even though Maggie should text him back.

The episode ends with Amy asking Jessie to be one of her bridesmaids (and do the entire wedding party’s hair for free). Louise lets Maggie know John broke up with her, and she breaks the news now she is using poker faces from now on. Finally, Maggie calls Daniel, and they go on their date.
