In The Sea Beast, Young Maisie came from a long line of hunters who died at the hands of the king and queen. They wrote books about the sea beasts attacking their shores and never being able to get rid of them. They sent lower-class hunters to do the job of their army because they were expendable. After going on this journey, Maisie now understands who the king and queen truly are, and she plans to put a stop to monster hunting. After getting to know Red, the sea beast who they befriend, she understands that these animals are simply just existing.
Maisie was brave enough to face the king and queen on her own to release Red. She gave a beautiful, uplifting speech at the end of the film that called them both out and made the kingdom realize their wrongdoings. Maisie had gone through a tough time growing up because she lost her parents. So to be able to meet her hero, understand her past, and break some barriers is all part of her growing up to live a great life. She feels like she has finally been freed from these restraints that she had been under. She has Jacob as her friend and mentor, and they will go on many more adventures together.
