Summary

We follow Bogdan Boner, a self-taught exorcist, causing havoc by fighting demons.

This review of the Netflix animated series Bad Exorcist does not contain spoilers.

Netflix has a surprisingly big collection of adult content animation, so if you’re a fan of these types of series then you’ll be happy to know there is a new one available for streaming as of today. Bad Exorcist, also known as The Exorcist Boner, is a series where no demon is safe with the alcohol-loving, self-taught exorcist Bogdan Boner around. He and his weird team, which includes his son and Domino the Demon, are in the business of fighting dark forces. With a satirical take on exorcisms, this series definitely has an interesting concept.

This Polish animated series has two seasons available to watch, with both available on Netflix, but season one has been available in Poland since 2020. Thirteen episodes in season one, lasting roughly twelve minutes each. Short and sweet, making for an easy binge-watch. Blink, and you could miss an episode, literally.

Dramatic, energetic, crazy stories with a lot of swearing, this series is a lot to handle. Not in a bad way — each episode is packed full of action, rude jokes, and crude visuals, and because they’re so short, you’ve got a lot thrown into a short amount of time. The voice-over acting is great; very funny, distinctive voices. Some are perfectly croaky and creepy, and they really help bring the characters to life. The content is ridiculous.

The animation is similar to South Park, and I couldn’t get that out of my mind, and it made me want to watch South Park, unfortunately. However, the characters are funny, visually, especially the demons they are chasing and fighting. With this specific theme and how it’s used, it’s hard to compare to anything, and it does feel fresh, but imagine you’re watching Bobby from Supernatural meets South Park, but with more swearing and violence, in a quicker time frame. I think that’s my only real criticism, how short the episodes are. I went to make a cup of tea and missed one. Yet, I don’t know if it has the strength to be full 20-30 minute episodes, so these short blasts could be all they can offer.

While this series didn’t have me laughing out loud, there were segments and situations that had me giggling. This will either be something you love or something you hate, either way, I would say this series is a fun, quick watch, so worth trying. You’ll enjoy it if you like other animation series such as South Park, F is for Family, Brickleberry, and Paradise PD.
