Black Bird is a six-part crime drama from writer Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island), which is loosely based on James Keene’s autobiographical novel. Taron Egerton plays the lead role of Jimmy, a drug dealer who is imprisoned after an FBI raid uncovers a rather large collection of weapons and drugs hidden in his mansion. The series gained a lot of accolades, but Season 2 is very unlikely as it was labelled a mini series.
The Apple Original is a masterful piece of filmmaking, with exceptional performances from its Hollywood cast. Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser and Ray Liotta are on another level in this gripping, unnerving series. The show combines this cinematic cast, look and feel, with an impressive score from Mogwai and some clever plotting from creator Dennis Lehane.
Will there be a season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Black Bird?
Fans of the show will be dying to know if Black Bird has been renewed, but it would seem highly unlikely at this point. The show is listed as a miniseries, meaning that it will only run for a single season, wrapping up its narrative in next week’s finale. Only a few limited series go on to return for a second instalment, but with the show focusing on a single novel, it’s very likely that this story will be completed in episode six, with no need for a follow up.
The fifth episode ended with Jimmy managing to gain that all-important confession from Larry, who admitted to killing Jessica Roach after all. The prisoner did a great job to coax out this confession without losing his cool, but didn’t push for the specific locations. Meanwhile, a crooked guard has started to spread the news that Jimmy is a snitch. Jimmy doesn’t have much time left to gain the locations and may face attacks from his fellow inmates if he doesn’t hurry. It’s a tense setup that will come to a head in the hotly anticipated finale.
A second season doesn’t seem to be on the cards for this fascinating series, but as always, we’ll keep you posted on any updates on the pending renewal of Black Bird.
