Summary

I highly doubt there will need to be an Unsuspicious season 2, but I will not be watching it if there is.

This review of the Netflix series Unsuspicious season 1 does not contain spoilers.

Have you ever partaken in an event that encourages forced fun? Where the fun itself is not natural, and everyone in attendance has to unnaturally try and make it enjoyable for the great good of the social event? The Netflix series Unsuspicious is like that. It’s way too silly and unenjoyable for it to be enjoyed, and it feels very much like forced fun.

Unsuspicious follows the story of a playboy who has conned three women. When the three women visit the playboy’s mansion and look for answers, they are embroiled in a murder investigation. The playboy has been murdered, meaning they all must stay until the investigation is concluded.

Of course, the premise sounds like a formidable “whodunnit,” but in reality, Unsuspicious is a cheap production with lazy comedic writing and too much cheesy underlay. There’s plenty of energy, but audiences have to endure the chaos that is unenjoyable and fractured. The more the plot moves forward, the more answers arrive regarding the playboy’s assets, plans, and the motive behind his murder. But unfortunately, this expects the audience to be invested. There’s nothing to be invested in here, apart from silly gags and a story that drags on for too long.

And so, Unsuspicious is another outing that does not help Netflix’s case that their content hub is the best way to thrive in a growing streaming market. This is the type of series audiences get frustrated with Netflix and argue about the value of money. I’m in not anti-Netflix by any means. In fact, I enjoy the streaming service. But additions like these are aggravating.

I highly doubt there will need to be an Unsuspicious season 2, but I will not be watching it if there is.
