In the last episode, we had an emotionally charged episode of Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. We saw the demise of the Showtime Lakers, and the adversity Jeanie Buss faced but the episode ended with hope as we saw the trade and signing of two soon-to-be Laker legends. I am excited to dive into this week’s episode.

Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers season 1, episode 6 review

I won’t lie, I have been excited about this entire series, but to get into the Shaq/Kobe era of the Lakers is what I have been waiting for. I can’t wait to see and hear a more behind-the-scenes look at these two entering Hollywood. Although, it will be slightly sad because we won’t hear from present-day Kobe.

The hype around the Lakers was as high as it had been since the Showtime team. Snoop Dog to Shaq on the pager “I need nine tickets left at the door.” Honestly, this entire episode was worth the whole episode hearing him say this.

One thing that continues to be frustrating with this series is the structure of the episodes. I haven’t mentioned it much in the last two episodes, but it still gets on my nerves because it is edited all over the place. Though I will say that, thankfully, the show’s heart isn’t bad because otherwise, it would affect the overall product.

I was extremely excited about this episode because it was in the early ages of Kobe and Shaq. We got some incredible footage from the early days of the struggle of young Kobe vs. the veterans on the team. But, of course, Kobe wanted to be the guy, and even funny, he would refuse to admit that it was Shaq’s team. Time after time, these teams kept losing despite paying a high price for these players.

I never knew that Shaq was the guy that said the Lakers should go after Phil Jackson. It’s hilarious that in the recruitment, Shaq arrived at this house and told him to move a log before they would sit and meet. When Shaq tells this story in the episode, you cannot help but die of laughter. The entire thing was a test by Phil, and it worked. You had a man that had won many championships as a coach in the past, and they would have to pay a premium to make him the man.

I loved hearing these behind-the-scenes conversations of these two legends on how they ultimately won their first championship even though they struggled to get along. The end of this episode was so well edited together that if you aren’t tearing up a little, you aren’t a true sports fan.

Overall, ooooooooooo my goodness, folks, when I tell you this episode was the best yet, I mean it. From the drama surrounding Kobe/Shaq and Kobe/the team to the arrival of Phil Jackson to them overcoming the hurdle to win their first title, this series is getting better and better each week. And how this episode ended, the best is yet to come.
