WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

The romantic comedy Meet Cute brings together Pete Davidson and Kaley Cuoco in a fun and heartfelt way. While the story is convoluted at times, there is a heart here that really stands out. Both Cuoco and Davidson give good performances, and the subtle twist on the Groundhog’s Day rom-com paves the way for an impactful and worthwhile viewing experience.

After going back in time himself, it is discovered that the person who was there for Sheila when she was younger was Gary. This could be why she was constantly chasing after Gary to help create the perfect night. When Gary returns to his present, Sheila makes the choice to jump off the bridge. Gary chases after her and gets to her before she makes this decision, refusing to move from his post. After some back and forth, Gary tells Sheila he is from the future and convinces her to come with him to the other side.

The end of Meet Cute is a happy yet scary one for Gary and Sheila. After going through so much throughout, the two are finally able to move on to the next day in a happy ending. Sheila was finally able to let go of the past, the thing that had been holding her down for so long, and move on to the future with Gary. We can only assume that this is going to work between Sheila and Gary – I mean, Sheila has been seeing him for over a year – but the uncertainty is what is truly beautiful.

For the first time in a long time, Sheila doesn’t know what is going to happen. It is a scary situation, but Gary, who now understands more than ever, is willing to help show her that her life can actually be better. This emotional ending is one that should stick with the audience in a profound and heartfelt way. Sometimes, moving on is the scariest thing, but Meet Cute shows that if you have the right person, it is a leap worth taking, even if things do get messy sometimes.
