10 films like Lou (2022) you must watch

This article discusses 10 movies like the Netflix film Lou (2022) you must watch.

Lou is now streaming on Netflix. The action thriller revolves around an unassuming government agent hiding in plain sight. The titular character is a bit of stunt casting, with Academy and Emmy Award-winning actress Allison Janney in the role. The list contains selections that include empowering female action turns, plots about tracking bad guys through lush and dark forests, and those characters who are living in plain sight with secrets of their own.

5 films like Lou (2022) you must watch

Aliens (1979)

The quintessential female action film. Sigourney Weaver broke down barriers for women in Alien. She plays a legendary character, Ripley, as she battles extraterrestrial life forms better than the boys surrounding her.

Come and Find Me (2016)

In one of my favorite cult films, Aaron Paul plays David, a man who searches for his fiancé (Annabelle Wallis), who goes missing. The deeper she looks, the more he realizes he doesn’t know her at all and she has a secret life he never knew about. The reveal is killer, and I wish Wallis were used more as an action star.

Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)

Slick, bold, and ultra-cool, Gunpowder Milkshake is an enthralling avant-garde pop western that vaults Karen Gillan into the next generation of action stars. And if you have a free night, pair this with Netflix’s Kate, for a killer double feature.

Hard Rain (1998)

Watch Morgan Freeman chasing Christian Slater as he tries to keep money safe from a robber, his buddies, and some crazy citizens in a small town ravaged by a flood. One of the biggest box office bombs of 1998; I actually saw this film in theatres decades ago. And since I had to watch it, you must share my pain.

Kate (2021)

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan‘s (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) movie with breathtaking action, bracing visual style, and dark wit. Netflix’s Kate will make for a killer double feature with Gunpowder Milkshake.

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)

One of the original action female stars, Geena Davis, along with Weaver, paved the way for actresses to take on roles dominated by Stallones. Schwarzeneggers, and Willis of the worlds. Wrongly panned by most critics, Davis plays a woman as a retired spy living a quiet life. What’s the rub? She has no memory of her previous life.

Nobody (2021)

Talk about a surprise action star turn. The 59-year-old Bob Odenkirk starred in one of the most thrilling films of 2021. Nobody is a bone-crunching, knuckle-busting, lip-splitting action film that intends to drag you across concrete with the taste of asphalt in your mouth and bits of glass in your forehead. Hutch is like the guy John Wick was probably really based on.

Salt (2010)

How about a theory that Lou may be Agent Salt but retired hiding in the great Pacific Northwest? Well, probably not, but all I know is Salt was a CIA operative and accused double agent. Come to think about it, the last time we saw Salt, she jumped into the Potomac River. Why couldn’t she have ended up near Seattle?

Samaritan (2022)

Like Lou, Prime Video’s Samaritan has two well-executed plot twists. Sylvester Stallone stars as the ex-superhero Samaritan, who many thoughts died, but was living in plain sight in the same city he helped save daily.

Shoot to Kill (1987)

An ode to 1980s action thrillers, Sidney Poiter and Tom Berenger, star in Shoot to Kill. The odd pairing has both actors tracking a robbery-homicide suspect into a dense forest.
