Glitch season 1, episode 5 recap

This episode begins with another flashback of Bora and Ji-hyo as children trying to search for stories about people being kidnapped by aliens. Bora truly believes and Ji-hyo wants to witness it herself.

It then cuts to the present day with Bora trying to escape from Chungwoo in a woman’s facility and she locks him in the room with them. He expresses that he is only trying to find his daughter because she was abducted and he thinks there’s more to the story than aliens. He is part of the divine light church only to get close to them to find his daughter and uncover the truth.

Bora takes Chanwoo in with Ji-hyo trying to figure this all out. Bora starts asking questions, he’s been in this cute for four years and he hasn’t found anything useful to tell her. He just wanted to find his daughter through the church this whole time. The only way to know what they’re doing is by infiltrating the unit.

When Chungwoo leaves the room, the two of them find a hard drive with a sketch of the same overpass where the butterflies went to Ji-hyo. Chungwoo goes to the real estate lady, Seo, who is testing out the wires for the performance at the church later that day. When they both come out, Chungwoo sees that Bora and Ji-hyo have broken into her car.

They hide in the backseat without Seo knowing and stay there until she gets home. Chungwoo tries to get information from Seo for the two of them when he calls her in the car. But she gives nothing up. The song that Seo is humming triggers a memory for Ji-hyo and takes her back to when they were kids. The same thing happened to Ji-hyo once and Bora was slapping her face trying to wake up (past and present). Bora wakes her up because they arrive at Seo’s house and they have to start snooping before she catches them.

While they snoop from the outside, Bora records everything and comes face to face with an old lady. She ends up being Seo’s mother whom she looks after. Seo ends up leaving for the whole night because she is going to church. Bora and Ji-hyo break into the house and look for clues or evidence proving that this woman is linked to the cult.

They do find a photo album and there are pictures in there that look familiar to them but they can’t quite figure it out just yet. They also find the sketches, including the overpass in a different room. Changwoo scares them when he comes to get them and drives them home.

The ending

In the house, that old lady is known as the Holy Mother and is Back Younson, the same woman that they discovered when they were researching abductions when they were kids. Bora remembers that Ji-hyo was obsessed with her and they were in the same room as her. Younson said that they had a chip implanted and the aliens abducted her.

She started the cult later on because she birthed the idea. The location of the divine light church is a psychiatric hospital. Along with the sketches in that room, the Holy Mother drew Ji-hyo after she left because she is now considered the “Messiah”.

The abduction she doesn’t remember is when they planted the chip inside of her. The ending of episode five presents a whole new theory about the alien abductions and who is really leading this cult. We also find out the correlation between Ji-hyo and Younson, which leads nicely into the next half of the season. There’s a clear direction and that’s the most impressive thing about this series.
