We discussed who died in The English season 1, so naturally it will contain spoilers for the Prime Video series.

The English is one series that captures the dangerous elements of the American West. We are not just talking about the overt racism and unceremonious murder of wiping out Indigenous people, which is at the forefront and significant. Before the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, the estimated population was well over ten million. By the time the 20th century arrived, there were less than 300,000. The themes of racism, discrimination, and genocide of entire people are at the forefront of the series.

Hugo Blick‘s series is entertaining, but the last two episodes are hard to watch. There are so many things that can kill you in the Great Plains. The series is brimming with bushwhackers, hucksters, killers, adventure seekers, gunfighters, frontiersmen, miners, and even the genuinely naive, including the ones looking for their fortune.

And not everyone dies from bullets or arrows.

Who died in The English season 1?

Three Armed Men looking to kill Whipp

Three hateful men approach the coach where Whipp is being transported. Even though he served in the United States Army, they think all of his kind need to be wiped off the planet. Though the driver uncuffed Whipp, gave him a gun, and the coach was equipped with a secret shotgun on the left side. All three men are killed within a few seconds of each other.

Cornelia’s Driver – Sebold Cusk

In an exchange of gunfire, the driver (Tobey Jones) is hit in the torso. Whipp gives him a handgun before heading back to the hotel. Instead of bleeding out from his stomach, the man is heard shooting himself in the head instead of enduring a slow and painful death.

Hotel Owner Richard Watts and Associates

The hotel owner is killed by Whipp while enjoying an unfortunate final meal of prairie oysters. His hired hand is tied upside down, and his hands are behind his back. The rope is tethered to a horse and he is drowned by Cornelia when she backs up the horse and lowers the man’s head into a giant bucket of water.

The German Mennonite with a Pregnant Wife

He spoke no English but communicated he had a pregnant wife to the Bushwackers who ambushed him. He was shot with an arrow, and his wife died before giving birth.

The Bushwackers

These three amigos came across Whipp and Cornelia, then demanded the English woman’s bags. Whipp shot two, and Cornelia took out the last one with his bow and arrow.

Timothy Flynn and his Wife

Flynn, a former soldier with Billy Meyers and Whipp, shoots his wife in the back as she tries to jump over a barbed wire fence. She has sores on her hand from syphilis.

Billy Meyers

Speaking of Billy Meyers, he was found hung with metal wire and his intestines hanging out of his stomach. It was later revealed the masked man on the horse was Jerome McClintock.

The Tenison and Darwin Enthusiast

Cornelia comes across this man who explains cowpox to her and how ticks biting a cow can kill a heart. As he misquotes Darwin, he describes how the white man needs to wipe out the Native American population the same way. “No, that’s Tenison,” he explains. When he stands, he is shot to death, most likely by a clarification known as “Emigrant Indian” (a lid of tribes after the Indian Removal act of 1830), because the man went where he should not have.

Mrs. Clarke

Cornelia stabs Mrs. Clarke when she attempts to attack our English rose with her rifle.

The Chalk River Massacre

A group of Cheyenne is gun downed with a Gatling gun by an American West group of soldiers who roam the plains looking to execute Native Americans. An Englishman named Melmont joins the group in the killings with a connection to Cornelia.

Black-eyed Mog and her Sons

Cornelia shoots Mog with a sawed-off shotgun hidden under the villain’s kitchen table. She then hits her son in the house, and the final Mog descendant is stabbed to death by their stable boy, who turns out to be the son of Running Hawk and Touching Ground.

The Four Men at the Western Magnet Cable Company

These men attacked Whipp, Cornelia, and Touching Ground’s son. The latter kills. Both men are shooting buffalo rifle shots at her child. Two more men approach, and Whipp charges and kills both where they sit on their horses.

Thomas Trafford

It was reported he died in a flood while trying to love his herd of cattle to Alberta.

Thin Kelly

Kelly was Trafford’s muscle and was with him from the beginning. He met his end when McClintock shot a couple dozen holes in him with a Gatling gun through a roof while sitting on top of a horse.

Jerome McClintock

We aren’t sure if it was syphilis or bullets from Whipp’s rifle, but he passed on after raising his horse away from the Meyers’ home.

David Melmont

The main villain of the series, Melmont, is killed when the Meyers’ widow shoots him and is finished off by Eli when he stabs him with a broken sword.

And that’s who died in The English season 1.’
