What is the story of The Witcher: Blood Origin? Before the launch of the Netflix mini-series, we discuss the story surrounding it.

For one reason or another, The Witcher has been drawing quite a lot of attention recently. The show has been a success for Netflix, and so far, we have had two seasons of the fantasy adventure to enjoy.

The show is based on a series of books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and takes place in the fantasy realm known as The Continent. The realm has a feel and tone of a medieval period piece, but the show is filled with swords, sorcery, and supernatural elements.

One of the main draws for the show was the casting of Henry Cavill in the title role. Cavill was incredibly engaged with the show and made no attempt to disguise his love for the project. With the A-list actor fresh from stints as Superman and starring with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, it was great news for the show that he was on board.

However, recent news about The Witcher has left many fans reeling, but that is a subject for another feature. In this article, we will look at what we know about The Witcher: Blood Origin and see if we can shed a little light on its premise.

When is The Witcher: Blood Origin coming out?

Happy Holidays, as The Witcher: Blood Origin will drop on Netflix on December 25th, 2022. All four episodes of the special event mini-series will be there on this date.

What is the story of The Witcher: Blood Origin?

The four-episode series will tell the story of the creation of the first Witcher. The show will take place in a timeline that happens 1200 years before the events of The Witcher season 1. Of course, there will be other parts of The Witcher universe that will see some backstory, so fans can expect to learn about the situations that lead to “The Conjunction of the Spheres.” The series also looks at the Elven civilization before its eventual destruction.

The first episode has the title “Of Ballads and Bloody Blades” and will be written by Declan de Barra.

The Continent is not inhabited by monsters and humans and seems on the verge of becoming a united Elven kingdom. But there are some that are not altogether happy with the new proposals.

During the turmoil, a group of disparate heroes comes together. Strangers from rival bands meet and decide to unite, and the stage begins to be set for a story of atonement and revenge. The Seven are ready to fight against the unstoppable empire, but can they even trust each other?

Is Blood Origin a prequel to The Witcher?

The show is a prequel, and it addresses a lot of the lore for the main show, but it should be noted that it takes place more than a thousand years before The Witcher, so there is a bit of a disconnect. However, eagle-eyed fans of the franchise should keep an eye open for some Easter Eggs in this series.

Is Geralt in The Witcher: Blood Origin?

The short answer to this question is no. Geralt of Rivia is not in the show, basically because it takes place 1200 years ago, and Witchers and other monsters do not exist yet.

Should I watch The Witcher: Blood Origin?

If you are a fan of this property, you must check out this four-episode special event. If you have never seen an episode of The Witcher, you can still check this series out, as it is set so far before the main narrative that you would still enjoy the story as a stand-alone. Of course, regular Witcher watchers will enjoy connecting the dots, but I would say give this a go if you have any interest in the fantasy genre at all.
