The Mosquito Coast, an Apple TV+ adaptation of the 1986 Peter Weir film, has been an original feather in Apple’s streaming bow since it debuted back in 2021. The redo isn’t very good, but the first season was popular enough to spawn a second, and that recently concluded in a finale that I personally described thusly:
Well, folks, it’s over. And the good news is that “Eulogy” feels a lot like a proper ending, so we probably won’t have to suffer through any more of it. These days, that’s an increasingly rare thing, so while I think that this is one of the worst and most pointless shows on television, you must give credit where it’s due.
Needless to say, I wasn’t a big fan, but some people are, and as such, they’re understandably wondering about the show’s potential future. Here’s everything we know.
Will there be a Season 3 of The Mosquito Coast?
Jan 22nd, 2023 Update:
It has been confirmed that The Mosquito Coast has been canceled by Apple TV+. At present, there will not be a third season. Whether the series will find a new home will remain to be seen.
Jan 8th, 2023 Update:
At the time of writing, as usual, nothing has been confirmed or denied by Apple. While this is something of an established property, it isn’t the kind of IP that guarantees viewership, and you’re not going to get seasons renewed way in advance as you do with some shows.
Apple will be paying careful attention to the viewing figures here, which have surely declined since the first season. However, there might still be enough gas in the tank for another go-around, though I’d imagine that’s unlikely. However, while Netflix are always making headlines for canceling shows that people like, Apple TV+ potentially has an opportunity here to position itself as the platform that nurtures and sticks with its originals.
The real question is do we really need a third season since we didn’t really need a second? I’d argue we don’t, and I’d also argue that the ending of Season 2 functioned as a definitive conclusion, killing off all of the show’s villains and one of its main characters, leaving the others in a fitting — if rather mundane — position. I don’t see any reason to return to the well here, and my official prediction is that The Mosquito Coast will not be renewed for a third season.
How many seasons does The Mosquito Coast have?
At present, the series has two seasons. There has been no confirmation of how many seasons Apple TV+ plans to commission.
It’s just getting started.
I hope there is a season 3 i really enjoyed it didn’t like that alley is dead
This author is a glass half empty kind of creep! Eventually, these pay networks have to start listening to the people.
There’s still a cliff we’re left dangling from, is Allie dead, for certain? We need to see this play our. Perhaps we just need no more articles written by this loser.
Season 3 would be a fitting way to end the serial.. as nobody has seen the real Mosquito coast .. it would be fitting to end it after 2 or 3 episodes… having kindled the curiosity of people showing the landing of casa roja people on ? coast.
I’m thinking Alley might not be dead. Plus he has a boatload of cash to pay for a like saving medical team, providing no one
Rips him off and he’s rescued by a goos Samaritan.
season 3 starts with Allie NOT dead, as you see the blast from the detonator seems to envelope/pulled Guillermo’s assassin into the blaze…(hate that guy, make Americans look stupid). end the season with the US authorities realizing Allie is an asset to them, give the family immunity, immunity from Mexico for Charlie, immunity for Gina for the hotel fraud. midseason, confront Isela why she says she provides sanctuary when she clearly does not, what kind of sanctuary is that when the bad guys come and take whenever they like?, notice no teenage girls, maybe the bad guys took them too?…..LOL, so somewhere an agreement have to be made with the bad guys, even though there is no landlord, per se…, in those worlds there are no laws for bad guys….
I hope you are wrong. I like it very much and hope there is a third season. Apple canceled Shantaram on a major cliffhanger though, so I’m pessimistic but hopeful.
Renew The Mosquito Coast as you should have done with Shantaram.
The ending leaves too many loose threads. For one Alley should not die in this episode… I think one more season to have closure get, them back to America.. Keep the family unit together. That’s what we need to see with this show.. I think it has great potential.
I think Mosquito Coast is excellent, some good young actors and old, Gabriel Bateman, Logan Polish and Ian Hart. Please give us another Season, I couldn’t wait to watch.
I look forward to watching Mosquito Coast.
Love the characters.
It feels edgy like the beginning of Lost.
Would love it to be renewed.
This article must have been written by a certain kind of politician. Calling this show worthless and pointless without substantiation only reflects back on their own ideologies which are truly useless to the world that is out there right now.
Anyone watching and only those interested in something different, can see the value in this show. We are just getting to know the characters and the idea the daughter was brilliant enough to take Dad’s plans and put together a machine nobody else can imagine in the span of time it took for them to arrive to the fabled, Mosquito Coast, makes the show as bad as the writer above. Not to mention, the best sequence of the show would be the tale that occurs at Mosquito Coast. How they bind with the natives, make them all dependent on Allie’s genius, thrive, only to have his brainchild society become corrupt and in the end be overthrown by those around them more adapted. THE BEST SEASON WOULD BE SEASON 3! Come on
