There’s a new spin-off series in town, eight episodes of a young adult comedy fantasy drama revolving around four characters following in the footsteps of the core four from the popular Netflix show On My Block.
The series stars Keyla Monterosso Mejia, Bryana Salaz, Tenzing Norgay Trainor and Ciara Riley Wilson. Peggy Blow also appears in the new show along with a few others that reprise roles from the previous series.
Freeridge takes place in the same universe as the popular show On My Block, which ran for four seasons, consisting of thirty-eight episodes, between 2018 and 2021. That show also dealt with four main characters, dealing with the trials and tribulations of life in and out of school in Los Angeles. As well as the humor and relationships, there was always a hint of a more mystic side to On My Block, and this is also the case in Freeridge, with our fantastic four seemingly releasing a curse from a mysterious box that appears to affect their lives.
Sisters Gloria and Ines are always at each other’s throats, dealing with a myriad of problems in their lives, and this also adds an emotional resonance to the show. So there’s a lot going on in the spin-off, but the name of the show, and the main point of this particular article, got us wondering if Freeridge is real and where it was filmed.

The location of Freeridge seems to be an area located in the Southcentral area of Los Angeles.
What city is Freeridge based on?
Freeridge is heavily based on the city of Lynwwod, which is the hometown of co-creator Eddie González. Around 15 minutes south of downtown Los Angeles, the suburb has a population of around sixty-eight thousand and is a large urban area of LA. Lynwood can be found near South Gate and Compton in the central portion of the Los Angeles Basin.
Where was the Netflix series Freeridge filmed?
From what we can find online, production and filming for Freeridge took place from May 9, 2022, through July 5, 2022. As the show is a spin-off from On My Block, it makes sense that the show was filmed in Los Angeles, California.
This makes sense since the show is established to be set in Los Angeles. Eagle-eyed fans of On My Block pinpointed some scenes from that show that were filmed in Burbank. It has been really difficult to pinpoint the exact locations for filming, but there were some photos posted to social media by an assistant to the executive producers that look as if the show was filmed around the same areas as On My Block, so although the locations have been hard to find, we are having an educated guess that Burbank and surrounding areas were the main locations used.
