The long-awaited trailer for The Flash has finally arrived, bringing an end to a film that has gone through years of delays to get made, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the trouble that is unfortunately tied to the lead actor, Ezra Miller. But putting all of that aside, the trailer featured several wild moments teasing a momentous crossover that will end the DC universe’s current era.
A couple of these moments were already known, such as the return of Michael Keaton as Batman and the appearance of Supergirl. However, there were still some surprises, like General Zod showing up and a second Barry Allen seemingly coming out of nowhere. But one quick moment beats them all, and it’s a possible cameo from the Dark Knight himself.
Is Christian Bale (as Batman) in The Flash trailer?
Around the midpoint of the trailer, a Batman can be seen riding the Batcycle through a city (likely Flash’s home Central City), and the costume looks very similar to what Christian Bale wore in his trilogy of Batman films.
The Batcycle appeared in the 2008 film The Dark Knight, and its appearance here, along with the shape of the Batman, teases a possible return from Bale. This would mark the actor’s return to the role since 2012 when he starred in The Dark Knight Rises. It would also mean there would be three Batman in the film.
It should be stressed that there’s been no official confirmation from Bale or anyone else that he will show up in the film, so it might end up being a misdirect, or the shots coincidentally look similar.
Why could Christian Bale’s Batman be in The Flash?
There is a reasonably logical reason why Christian Bale might appear as the Dark Knight in the film. The Flash will be adapting the Flashpoint crossover event from the comics. Barry causes the creation of this universe by going back in time to save his mother, a beat that might be adapted for the film. The event featured wild changes to characters, like Bruce being killed, his dad becoming Batman (his mum also became the Joker), and Superman’s pod crashing in Metropolis instead of Kansas, causing him to be put under government surveillance.
The film will have its wild changes, with a different Batman, bringing back General Zod and Supergirl. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Christian Bale to appear as Batman in this crossover event.
Anything is possible in a vast multiverse.
What Batman does appear in The Flash trailer?
Besides a possible appearance from Christian Bale, two other Batman appear in the trailer for the film. Early in the trailer, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne cautions Barry about using his super speed to go into the past, saying that he has no idea of the potential consequences of his actions. While Affleck doesn’t suit up in the trailer, he will probably be in the final film. He has been the main Batman for the DC for several years.
However, one actor that does suit up in the Batsuit in the trailer is Michael Keaton. The actor has long been attached to this film as the character and was even supposed to be in the Batgirl film before Warner. Bros Discovery canceled it. He appears in the suit from his 1989 Batman film and looks like he will have a sizeable role in the movie.
