After being dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to follow him to law school and prove a point that she’s more than just her looks. It is one of the most empowering films for women, and she does put her ex-boyfriend in his place.
No Strings Attached (2011)
Ashton Kutcher has also appeared in other romantic comedies, and this one revolves around two friends who casually have sex with each other with, you guessed it, “no strings attached.” However, it’s hard for these situations to stay platonic once you’ve stayed with the person for a while.

What does it mean to love your best friend truly? Julia Roberts takes everyone on a journey as Julianne Potter, whose best guy friend, Michael (Dermot Mulroney), is getting married, just not to her. Their whole relationship was a will-they-won’t-they until he did find the girl of his dreams, and Julianne was crushed. We see their relationship and how their dynamic changes throughout this film.
The Proposal (2009)
If you’re a fan of gimmicks in romantic comedies, then The Proposal probably has one of the funniest ones. In this film, a pushy boss named Margaret (Sandra Bullock) forces her young assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), to marry her to keep her visa status in the States and avoid deportation to Canada. There’s a rush to meet the family and to have the wedding as soon as possible. So Andrew’s hatred for his boss turns into something else.
Jerry Maguire (1996)
Even though Jerry Maguire doesn’t conventionally fall in the romance category because it’s considered a sports drama, it still has a strong work friendship turn into something more. Early in Dorothy Boyd’s (Renée Zellweger), she leaves a big firm to work with big-time sports agent Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) after he has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it. He decides to become an independent agent and work for the little guys.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
We meet Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey), an advertising executive and ladies’ man who bets he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days to win an extensive campaign. Then enters Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), who is a magazine love columnist and does research for a piece about how to lose a guy in 10 days. Luckily, these two meet, and it makes for an interesting dynamic.
Set It Up (2018)
What starts as a matchmaking project for two executive assistants and their bosses turns into romance as they get to know each other through their shenanigans. The chemistry between Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell is some of the best onscreen chemistry in a very long time.
