Summary

Choosing to focus only on Bell and Ryuu proved to be a smart move. This episode emotionally hit all the right notes, making the build-up to the conclusion quite satisfying.

For once, Bell’s (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) Party seems to have a bright side to look on as we reach Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 Episode 19, as they not only have a better idea of where he is but have almost doubled in size.

The addition of the Xenos and Tsubaki’s Party couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. Now, it’s up to them to find Bell and Ryuu (Saori Hayami), hopefully before any more foes can get in their way. With the Juggernaut still roaming the lower floors, however, it may only be a matter of time before he stumbles upon them first.

The episode opens with Ryuu speaking with her familia member, Lyra. Ryuu thanks her for all of the skills Lyra has taught her, despite them being considered underhanded. Lyra assures her that one day the things she taught Ryuu will save her and that she should always try to turn her knowledge into wisdom.

What is the Colosseum?

Ryuu explains that the Colosseum is an arena where “monsters spawn infinitely, no matter how many are defeated.” She says it is the most dangerous place on the 37th floor, so dangerous the Loki Familia won’t even enter it.

To return to the standard map route, Ryuu says they must cut across the Colosseum. Knowing they will not last against an endless hoard of monsters, she tells Bell they will avoid them entirely. To avoid them, they will blend in by camouflaging themselves with Skull Sheep skins. If they wear that and over themselves in Barbarian heart, she thinks they should be able to trick the other monsters.

Bell thanks Ryuu for her help, knowing he wouldn’t have made it this far without her, and she gives him the same advice Lyra gave her. They then divide the remaining items before making their way into the Colosseum. With the fur draped over them, they pass the first group of monsters. However, as they walk deeper into the Colosseum, they encounter more dangerous monsters already engaged in battle with one another.

As they continue to cut across the Colosseum, a Loup Garou jumps in front of Bell and Ryuu’s path, staring them down. Thankfully, it does not attack, instead jumping down into the heart of the Colosseum to battle other monsters.

How do the monsters realize Bell and Ryuu are among them?

Bell and Ryuu continue their path carefully when several Spartoi appear, killing a monster before grabbing Bell’s leg. The monster attempts to drag him to the bottom of the Colosseum, but Bell escapes his clutches. However, now that every monster knows they are there, the two take off running.

As hoards of monsters stand in their way, ready to fight, Ryuu tells Bell to focus on securing a path forward. They begin taking out the monsters immediately before them, but even more, they show up for every monster they kill. Even after clearing enough monsters to see the way out, things turn for the worst when monsters enter through the exit. Ryuu tells Bell to charge forward while she takes out the enemies in the back.

How does Ryuu sacrifice herself for Bell?

After blowing up half of the monsters, Ryuu activates a spell, Luminous Wind, that propels Bell toward the exit while destroying the path between them. He yells for her not to do it, but Ryuu turns and begins battling the monsters. Despite planning to die, she refuses to go out without a fight. Meanwhile, Bell runs toward her, refusing to leave Ryuu behind.

How does Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 Episode 19 End?

As Ryuu prepares to die, she suddenly sees a firey explosion above her. She looks up to see Bell diving toward her, begging him to turn around and save himself as he puts his body between her and the monsters. Ryuu looks on in awe as Bell throws one last blazerock and shoots a powerful firebolt, setting off a massive explosion that engulfs the bottom of the Colosseum.

Season 4 Episode 19 focused solely on Bell and Ryuu, and I enjoyed that. With all the suspense and everything else going on, it would’ve felt choppy trying to switch between them and Bell’s Party, likely losing all the emotion tied into this episode.

I thought the flashback at the beginning was one of the better ones, with Lyra showing a different side to Ryuu’s character.

The relationship between Bell and Ryuu has always been strong, filled with mutual respect, and you could feel that in this episode, helping us understand both of their decisions.
