The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 10 sees the titular group recover their ship, the Havoc Marauder (and Gonky). They find out it’s been taken to a nearby town with an optimum mine formally belonging to the Techno Union. To get it back, they enlist the unwilling help of Benni, a young thief who stole the ship and gave it to his boss, Mokko.

Their plan goes awry when they are discovered, and Omega is captured, but they are saved when Benni incites a revolt against Mokko. Both characters are new to Star Wars and have a central role in the episode.

Who are Mokko and Benni in The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 10?

Benni is the thief who stole the Marauder in episode nine. He is a young humanoid boy who has lived in the ipsium mining town. He looks up to Mokko and desperately wants to become part of his inner circle. He’s around Omega’s age.

Mokko is the boss who owns the town and to who Benni gives the Marauder. He is a mean-looking alien with his right arm replaced with a robot arm and has a pair of security droids surrounding him. He also has some loyal crew members but keeps everyone in horrible conditions. Workers are forced to work long hours in the dangerous mine for what’s implied to be little pay and have to compete for food.

Is Mokko part of Vanguard Axis?

While Mokko uses similar types of droids to defend his mine, he isn’t connected to the criminal droid smuggling group Vanguard Axis.

Mokko doesn’t seem interested in participating in any criminal activity that Vanguard Axis does, such as alien smuggling; he only wants to keep control of the mining town and live in luxury. It doesn’t seem like Mokko even owns a starship, and judging by his plan to strip the Marauder for parts during the episode, he doesn’t look interested in owning one either.

This signals that he is independent and keeps his operation to himself.

How did Mokko take control of the ipsium mining town in The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 10?

The mining town in the episode was formerly owned by the Techno Union, a major group of the Separatists. When they were defeated at the end of the Clone Wars, all of their assets were left open for anyone to take. This situation wasn’t just unique to this planet or town and was replicated across the galaxy.

Mokko took over the mining operation, taking advantage of the power gap. He had been running the mine ever since, taking the lion’s share of the profits and only sharing scraps. He kept control by telling the workers the ipsium was degraded and pitting the workers against one another. Mokko holds competitions for the top earner and whoever gets food. The other workers have to fight each other for food.

This type of ruling is done so that the workers are divided and more concerned with beating each other for food and not thinking if they worked together, they could rebel and get an equal reward. Tech notes that Mokko uses his power and leverage similarly to the Empire, and he’s right. In episodes eight, nine, and ten of Andor, the prisoners in the Imperial prison on Narkina 5 were forced to compete against each other to stop them from working together and rebelling.

Why was Mokko overthrown in The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 10, and what did Benni do?

Once Benni and Omega broke into the control room of the mine to lower the ray shields, they found that the ipsium hadn’t degraded at all. Mokko had been lying to all the workers to keep them from rebelling. But once this lie is exposed, Benni incites the rest of the workers to revolt against Mokko, who ultimately dies.

The poor conditions he kept his workers in no doubt contributed to them feeling hatred and a willingness to depose Mokko once he was clearly lying to them. And once Tech and Wrecker disabled his droids, they could take him out.
