Twilight is a film and book franchise that’s captured the interest of teenagers and adults alike. The five films have made over 3 billion dollars at the box office, and while they weren’t a critical hit, they’ve still got thousands of fans across the globe.

The supernatural romance movies center around a love story between human Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, and vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, as they try and navigate their respective worlds.

Robert Pattinson is the clear breakout star from this franchise. He has since gone on to lead a successful career.

The genre of supernatural romance also enjoyed an increased period in the spotlight, even inspiring the creation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Age of Adaline (2015)

Blake Lively stars as Adaline Bowman, a woman who, after an accident, ceases to age, and after years of a solitary existence, she meets and falls in love with Ellis Jones, played by Michiel Huisman.

This complicates the lonely life she’s settled into. Adaline must decide whether or not to embrace this new love and connection despite its risks.

While it doesn’t include supernatural elements, Twilight fans will still enjoy this romance film.

About Time (2013)

Instead of messing with age, About Time messes with time itself. At age 21, Tim, played by Domhnall Gleeson, discovers that he can change time. He does this to better his love life and to fall in love with Mary, played by Rachel McAdams.

This movie shows the pitfalls of messing with time, as changing one event will butterfly out and affect others. When Tim encounters something time travel can’t change, he learns to live in the present and the value of mistakes.

Her (2013)

Her is a science fiction romance following a sensitive and tragic man named Theodore, played by Joaquin Phoenix. He earns a living by writing personal letters for others.

After his marriage ends, a heartbroken Theodore falls in love with an AI program called “Samantha,” voiced by Scarlett Johansson, which develops a playful yet sensitive personality as he chats with it. As the film goes on, Theodore must come to terms with the fact he’s in love with an operating system.

Water for Elephants (2011)

Not only has Robert Pattinson done supernatural romance, but he’s also done historical romance too. Starring as young veterinary student Jacob Jankowski in 1930s America, he runs away from his course as tragedy falls.

At night he jumps on a train, finding it a circus train. On board, Jacob falls in love with the performer, Marlena, who Reese Witherspoon plays.

The film was adapted from the book of the same name by Sara Gruen.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

Adam, played by Tom Hiddleston, and Eve, played by Tilda Swinton, star in this vampire love story as the pair must navigate the world as it rapidly changes during their centuries-long lifespan.

Though the pair’s lives are disrupted by Eve’s younger sister, which pushes their love to the limit. This film takes advantage of vampires living for centuries, something rarely shown on screen.

The Host (2013)

Not only has Stephanie Meyer written the supernatural love story Twilight she’s also written a sci-fi love story, this time about humans and aliens.

Titled The Host, this film that’s based on the book of the same name stars Melanie Stryder, played by Saoirse Ronan, as she makes friends with an alien that’s taken over her body, as the pair work together to reunite themselves with the human resistance.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)

Based on the novel by Cassandra Clare, this supernatural flick follows Clary Fray, played by Lily Collins, who learns that she’s related to the half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters, who protect humanity from evil.

After her mum disappears, Clary enters Downworld, an alternate realm that’s filled with supernatural creatures, to find an ancient cup holding the key to her mother’s future.

Crimson Peak (2015)

Leaning more into the horror aspect of the supernatural, this film by Guillermo del Toro follows Edith Cushing, played by Mia Wasikowska, as she marries mysterious aristocrat Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by Tom Hiddleston.

As she moves into his mansion, she confronts the secrets that Sharpe tries to keep hidden and the ghosts that haunt the house.

Beautiful Creatures (2013)

Twilight is the cursed love between a vampire and a human, so Beautiful Creatures, the cursed love between a human and a witch, will surely be appealing. Based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, this story follows Ethan Wate, played by Alden Ehrenreich, a teenager who lives in the static town of Gatlin S. C.

His life is shaken by the arrival of Lena Duchannes, played by Alice Engler. But she’s hiding a dark secret, supernatural powers beyond her control. Together they discover startling secrets about their families and must stave off a curse threatening their relationship.

Warm Bodies (2013)

If falling in love with aliens and vampires isn’t your thing, perhaps zombies might be more appealing. Well, this rom-com explores what that would be like, as zombie R played by Nicholas Hoult, falls in love with a human girl, must deal with the twin challenges of their unconventional relationship, and manage to keep his monstrous tendencies in check.

This film is based on Isaac Marion’s book of the same name.
