National Treasure is an adventure tale mixed with a conspiracy thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Justin Bartha as they attempt to locate a rumored treasure dating back to the creation of the United States, trying to reach it before Sean Bean’s evil Ian Howe. It’s a fun family outing with dorky humor.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the 2004 film started Nic Cage’s first franchise (which ended and then got revived by Disney).

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (2010)

After leading an attack on the Holy city of Alamut, Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) gets a dagger allowing him to access the Sands of Time, a device to turn back time itself. After being accused of killing his adoptive dad, the King of Persia, Dastan, and a princess from Alamut go on the run, protecting the treasure from the dark forces and unmasking the King’s assassin.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

This film follows Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as he navigates the oceans without a ship or crew. He arrives in Port Royal before a pirate by his former crew mate, Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), and the Black Pearl. They kidnap the governor’s daughter Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), who holds a valuable coin linked to a curse making Barbossa and his crew undead.

Gallant blacksmith William Turner (Orlando Bloom), who’s in love with Elizabeth, allies with Sparrow to pursue Barbossa.

This light-hearted romp is a must-watch for anyone who enjoyed the comedic moments in National Treasure and has a love of adventure.

The Goonies (1985)

A group of adventurous kids discover an old pirate map in the attic and decide to follow it. Naturally, this leads them on a dangerous but exciting hunt for the treasure marked on the map.

The Mummy (1999)

Set in Egypt in 1925, a group of treasure hunters led by Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) stumble upon an ancient tomb and accidentally free an undead Mummy, which houses the vengeful spirit of an Egyptian priest who has been sentenced to an eternity of damnation.

Both The Mummy and National Treasure showcase history with a supernatural twist and leads who are searching for treasure.

 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

Four school kids find an old video game console and are drawn to a game with a jungle setting. When they find they’ve become the adult avatars they chose, they have to go on a dangerous adventure to beat the game and return home, or else they’ll be stuck inside of it forever.

The Adventures of Tintin (2010)

Tintin (Jamie Bell), a young and adventurous reporter, and his loyal dog Snowy purchases a model ship called the Unicorn and discovers that it has a clue to sunken treasure. But he’s not the only one searching for the ship, sinister collector Sakharine (Daniel Craig) is also looking for it.

Tintin sets off on an adventure with the help of Snowy and gruff man Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) to find the mystery of the Unicorn.

Fans of the treasure hunt in National Treasure and alternate mythologies will love The Adventures of Tintin.

The Golden Compass (2007)

Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards) lives in an alternate world where human souls take the form of lifelong animal companions called daemons.
