We are starting to see things shake into place on Great Expectations. With Estella (Shalom Brune-Franklin) on the verge of marrying Drummle (Matthew Needham), Pip (Fionn Whitehead) begins to unravel, and Estella is doing whatever she can to save him. Here is everything that went down in Great Expectations Season 1, Episode 4.
- Estella has a bad dream in which she can’t escape the house. She is awoken by Miss Havisham, who says that she has been up all night pressing her clothes to prepare for her big day today.
- Drummle and Pip are talking when he brings up meeting his new wife today. Of course, Pip gets slightly upset cause he knows that it is Estella.
- Pip gets into a fight at a bar and loses until Jaggers arrives. We realize it was all part of the plan, with Jaggers needing something from the man with whom Pip started the fight.
- Although Pip continues to press at Jaggers, Jaggers has a plan and isn’t wavering from it.
- Estella has arrived in the city, and everyone is on their feet. When she walks in to meet Drummle, she sees Pip, which throws her for a loop.
- Miss Havisham and Drummle have agreed that they can meet for thirty minutes.
- Estella’s eyes wander toward Pip, causing Drummle to raise his voice. We hear Drummle establish his dominance in this soon-to-be marriage frightening Estella a little bit.
- After the meeting, Pip walks Estella to her carriage and asks why she intends to go through this marriage. Pip tries to explain things have changed since being in London.
- Even after explaining himself, Estella tells Pip that there is a wedding dress that awaits her and she must marry Drummle. However, after Pip gets out of the carriage, we see Estella break down in tears.
- Estella heads to Pip’s hometown to talk to Joe. She tells him she saw him in London and he isn’t doing well. She implores him to message him and ask him to come home.
- Shortly after that, she heads to meet with Biddy, who she knows is in love with Pip. Asks for her help as well.
- A shipment of Opiem is coming to the dock, and Jaggers tells a woman that he is taking it all. Pip isn’t feeling well, and Jaggers says that London will either make or kill him, and Pip thinks it will make him.
- Miss Havisham sees Estella practice dancing and asks her who she is dancing with. She tells her maybe it’s the blacksmith boy, not for love, but to spire her.
