We discuss 10 movies like The Wolf of Wall Street you must watch. Add these well-recommended films to your watch list.

The Wolf of Wall Street is the brilliant, bold, and bloody funny Martin Scorsese film that was first released in 2013.

Based on the unbelievable true story of Jordan Belfort, the film is based on his memoir of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort gives an incredible performance, excellently supported by Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie

10 Movies like The Wolf of Wall Street you must watch

The Big Short (2015)

This Wall Street drama film chronicles the events of the 2008 financial crisis as we watch a group of investors predicting and taking advantage of the collapse in the US economy and making millions.

Similar to The Wolf of Wall Street, The Big Short is a perfect blend between comedy and drama, and both films have a way of making these despicable people likable and enjoyable to watch. The story isn’t an easy, happy one, though. It shows that all actions have consequences. The film stars Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, and Brad Pitt, who give fantastic performances.

Catch me if you Can (2002)

This Steven Spielberg classic is a personal favorite of mine. Another film based on a true story; a cat-and-mouse chase between Carl, an FBI agent (Tom Hanks), and Frank (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Frank forges identities and swindles millions of dollars, living crazy, lavish lifestyles while on the run. This movie is like The Wolf of Wall Street, and while our protagonist is deceiving his way through life, the law finally catches up to him, but it’s not a bad end. It’s actually a satisfying one.

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)

Glengarry Glen Ross is a very underrated film and theatre production. (As the film is based on David Mamet’s Pulitzer-winning play) The film has a stellar cast, including Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, and Kevin Spacey. It’s a vivid portrayal of the dog-eat-dog life on Wall Street and gives insight into the seller’s mindset and lives.

American Hustle (2014)

American Hustle is a crime-comedy drama film directed by David O. Russell and has a star-studded cast including Jeniffer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Christian Bale, who give incredible performances. The plot surrounds con artists Irving and Sydney, who are forced to work for Richie, an FBI agent, who offers them amnesty, but of course, things don’t go to plan.

The Founder (2016)

Ray, a salesman, meets the owners of McDonald’s in Southern California and realizes the potential of the place, and decides to make it the biggest restaurant business in the world. This is the rise of the world’s wild popular chain and how it came to be. The film is based on Ray Kroc’s autobiography and an unauthorized biography, and like The Wolf of Wall Street, is a story worth telling.

Boiler Room (2000)

Another great crime film in which a student quits college and begins to work at an investment firm and is drawn into a world of corruption and greed. This film plot is loosely inspired by the life of Jordan Belfort, making it a great film to try out.

War Dogs (2016)

Jonah Hill and Miles Teller play two petty gun dealers, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who get their big break when they get assigned a million-dollar contract from the US government. This film is based on a true story, and their lives spiral into a serious downfall.

Wall Street (1997)

How far would you go to impress your idol? In the cut-throat world of Wall Street, we watch Gordon Gekko, a junior stockbroker, start insider trading and quickly climb the Wall Street ladder. This lying and cheating will eventually get him in serious trouble as his life falls apart.

Casino (1995)

This crime drama stars the great Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone and is one of Scorsese’s finest films. This movie is similar to The Wolf of Wall Street as it follows the rise and downfall of a corrupted protagonist.

A tale of greed, power, and loyalty, Casino, much like The Wolf of Wall Street, follows the gradual downfall of a corrupted individual. Both films are full of energy, dynamic characters, and intense storylines.

Goodfellas (1990)

Ending this list with the best crime drama film ever made, directed by the great Scorsese. Goodfellas is the story of Henry Hill, a mob member who quickly rises up the ranks on the mean streets of New York.

With fast-paced, quick cuts, and powerful performances from Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci, you’ll watch and see similarities between the protagonists in this and The Wolf of Wall Street.
