We discuss whether there will be a Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Extrapolations and its renewed or canceled status.
The star-studded cast in Extrapolations is jaw-dropping. The cast includes Sienna Miller, Edward Nortan, Toby Maguire, Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Forest Whitaker, Marion Cotillard, Diane Lane, Gemma Chan, Tahar Rahim, Eiza González, and countless others.
However, many are claiming that the Scott Z. Burns series wastes its most precious resource – its cast. Extrapolations is the type of series that sacrifices entertainment for the right to be self-righteous and self-indulgent.
Will there be a Season 2 of Extrapolations – renewed or canceled status
Apple TV+ has not officially stated if there will be a season 2 of Extrapolations. However, this series was thought to be a surefire way to win over fans since its initial release on March 17th, 2023. Some obvious reasons are the extraordinary cast and production behind the project.
Creator Scott Burns’s series brings his unique show to a more niche audience than most streaming networks. Burns created Extrapolations and is the mind behind environmental/pandemic films Contagion and An Inconvenient Truth.
This series is a frighteningly relevant attempt to have the world wake up to climate change. If you consider Burns has a God-like gift for predicting horrific pandemic futures, you can’t ignore how brilliant a writer he is.
The current critic’s score on Rotten Tomatoes stands at a rotten 44% with 36 total reviews (April 16th, 2023). Even a more telling sign may be the audience score. Right now, the percentage stands at a paltry 60% with 50 or more reviews. While Metacritic is slightly more favorable at 56%, the show leans toward an average grade. In fact, the show has only one negative review.
However, most are mixed. Still, with the jaw-dropping cast, the show may have long evergreen legs for the future.
However, following the season since its debut, you have to wonder how popular the show has become. One disturbing trend is the current Nielsen ratings for streaming. After the release, Extrapolations did not crack the top ten in original streaming shows.
While we can postulate a reason for a second season, this reads like a simple one-off.
Prediction: Extrapaolations will not receive a second season.
