Film, News, Will There Be a Sequel

We discuss whether there will be a Romancham 2, a sequel to the film Romancham, and will contain spoilers.

Here is another 2023 international horror comedy film — we recently covered Phenomena at Ready Steady Cut, which has become a bit of an under-the-radar hit for the producers.

The 2023 Indian Malayalam-language movie was written and directed by Jithu Madhavan in his first feature film and stars Soubin Shahir, Sajin Gopu, Siju Sunny, and Abin Bino.

Romancham became a success, becoming one of the most profitable Malayalam movies of all time, grossing over 70.81 crores worldwide, and currently the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of 2023.

The film was released theatrically in February 2023 and is based on a true story. The real draw here is the ensemble cast and the comedic takes.

With all that in place, this dread-building slapstick of an article will speculate on whether there will be a sequel to Romancham.

Romancham sequel potential release date

Although this is a supernatural comedy movie, it is not a particular effects-heavy film, and the budget is more akin to an indie production, so if work has currently started on the sequel, and we feel it might have, it means that the Romancham 2 could be released by April 2024.

Romancham sequel cast – who might be in it?

The sequel would definitely have to bring back the original cast from the first film, so we would be expecting to see Soubin Shahir, Arjun Ashokan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sajin Gopu, Siju Sunny, Afzak P.H., Abin Bino, Anantharaman Ajay, Joemon Jyothir, Assim Jamal and Jagadeesh Kumar, all back on board.

Romancham sequel plot: what could Romancham 2 be about?

The central premise of the first outing tells the comedic story of a group of seven bachelors in 2007 Bangalore who decides that using an Ouija board might be a good way to pass an evening. As you might expect, the film follows the aftermath of the Ouija board experiment, as all involved are affected by the repercussions.

It would seem that a sequel was always in the minds of the production team, as the film itself ends with a cliffhanger.

Director Jithu Madhavan has also stated that there will be a sequel depending on whether or not the audience enjoys the first one, so it certainly seems at this point that a sequel is almost assured.

The sequel would clear up the cliffhanger ending and continue to follow and expand on the ensemble cast of characters, which is where the real heart of the film lies.

The problem of the spirit that seems to have appeared due to the Ouija board, is wreaking havoc in the lives of the cast would also be addressed, and it would be interesting to see if the gang decides to try and exorcise the spirit or purge the house of its power.
