Romancham, a Malayalam-language movie on Netflix written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, became one of the most profitable Malayalam movies of all time, grossing over 70.81 crores worldwide after its release in 2023. Based on a true story, its ensemble cast — including Soubin Shahir, Sajin Gopu, Siju Sunny, and Abin Bino — and comedic hijinks made it very popular, and Madhavan is interesting in making a sequel. However, Romancham 2 isn’t coming any time soon.

Jithu Madhavan Wants to Make A Romancham Sequel

Speaking with India Today, director Jithu Madhavan expressed a desire to make Romancham 2, but that it must live up to the original. This would mean it would only be made and released when the time was right, not on a rushed schedule: “If I make Romancham 2 it has to live up to this film, so it will take time,” he said.

Romancham Sequel Potential Release Date

Although this is a supernatural comedy movie, it is not a particular effects-heavy film, and the budget is more akin to an indie production. This would be an obvious benefit to the actual making of the movie, but from the quote above, it seems like Madhavan is in no rush. Often in these cases, the development of the script after hitting on the right idea, not to mention coming up with that idea in the first place, is what takes up a lot of time.

At the time of writing (March 23, 2024), a late 2024 or 2025 release date seems most viable.

Romancham Sequel Cast – Who might be in it?

The sequel would have to bring back the original cast from the first film, so we would be expecting to see Soubin Shahir, Arjun Ashokan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sajin Gopu, Siju Sunny, Afzak P.H., Abin Bino, Anantharaman Ajay, Joemon Jyothir, Assim Jamal and Jagadeesh Kumar, all back on board.

Romancham Sequel Plot: What could Romancham 2 be about?

The central premise of the first outing tells the comedic story of a group of seven bachelors in 2007 Bangalore, who decide that using a Ouija board might be a good way to pass an evening. As you might expect, the film follows the aftermath of the Ouija board experiment, as all involved are affected by the repercussions.

It would seem that a sequel was always in the minds of the production team, as the film itself ends with a cliffhanger. The sequel would clear up the cliffhanger ending and continue to follow and expand on the ensemble cast of characters, which is where the real heart of the film lies.
