Summary

How to Get Rich is yet another makeover style of show, but one that gives you something to learn.

Everyone knows that money has power over us. In the Netflix documentary series How to Get Rich, we follow a finance expert who attempts to help others get rich. The eight-episode docuseries is about how finance expert Ramit Sethi works with people across the US to help them achieve their most affluent lives.

So we’ve had Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Restaraunt Impossible, and Get Organized with the Home Edit. Now, we have How to Get Rich, which all have the same thing in common: someone comes into your life and upends many things, and we have a happy ending. Host Ramit Sethi comes into people’s lives and dissects their entire portfolios, bank accounts, and credit cards, hoping to get them on the right track.

Right off the back, you see how Sethi is somewhat of a mediator to the first couple we meet, who are in the gender-swapped role where the woman is making money while the man is the stay-at-home dad.

Now, we are in 2023, and the expectations are wild to think that this isn’t in the realm of possibilities, but they would have the same issues if the roles were reversed. She wants control because he makes money but feels like the odd person out.

I walked into watching this series with massive reservations. I didn’t get why we needed to see this guy dissect people’s lives, but I walked away, learning quite a bit about how I could use some of Sethi’s practices to help my financial situation. Sethi isn’t full of himself or condescending. I believe he is genuine in what he is trying to accomplish, and because of that, he makes each case he tackles unique.

A reality TV show is only as good as the host, and Ramit Sethi has a relatable and honest voice that mixes with a vibrant personality. I liked Sethi and how he approached and talked to each of these individuals. It’s something that I could easily want to watch more of.

How To Get Rich is an informative look at how you can fix your money issues. Throughout each episode, the stories are different and unique, and you can find yourself putting on the shoes of the people that host Ramit Sethi is talking to.

Because of that, I took notes and tried to figure out how to adapt this style to my daily life.
