We discuss ten movies like About Time you must watch. Add these well-recommended films to your watch list.

About Time is a sci-fi romance that stars difficult to pronounce son of Brendan, Domhnall Gleeson, as 21-year-old Tim Lake, who finds out that the men in his family have the ability to travel back in time to moments they have experienced before.

The quirky premise kickstarts the plot, and after processing the gift he has, Tim is quick to decide that his story will be about finding his true love.

If you like the film, here are ten movies like About Time that we’d recommend.

10 Movies like About Time

Groundhog Day (1993)

Much loved deadpan National Lampooning Bill Murray as Phil Connors, an unhappy man who, after spending the day covering the news of Punxsutawney’s groundhog celebration, wakes up every day to re-do the day he has just lived.

Why? Don’t know, but it doesn’t matter. This time-traveling morality play is a classic must-see movie.

Midnight in Paris (2011)

Time travel and controversial awkward film genius Woody Allen don’t go hand in hand. Yet, here we are with Texan wow maker Owen Wilson arriving in Paris and finding that he travels back in time to the 1920s every night at midnight, where he meets F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemmingway.

Just like About Time, Rachel McAdams also stars, so it is no surprise this makes our list.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Intense no, nonsense couch hopper Tom Cruise is Lt., a soldier who finds himself fighting on the front lines during an alien invasion of Earth.

After being exposed to the alien’s blood, he is caught in a time loop, repeating the same day and becoming a ruthless killer.

Cruise must work with other soldiers and a ruthless warrior, played by Emily Blunt, to fight an army of alien life forms that he has to devastate daily in his efforts to defeat them.

Source Code (2011)

More time travel shenanigans ensue in this tale of a bomb on a train and Captain Colter Stevens trying to prevent the tragedy by constantly returning to the event and doing his best to alter the outcome.

The science here is more focused on perspective and the psychology of time travel, putting a new spin on an old trope.

Jake Gyllenhaal desperately tries to figure out what is happening in this thrill ride.

Liberal Arts (2012)

There is plenty of romance here, but the time travel aspect is a bit more analogous, as Josh Radnor does a Kenneth Branagh, writing, directing, and casting himself as Jesse Fisher, a 35-year-old New Yorker that is disillusioned with his life and yearns for a return to happier times at his liberal arts college.

He makes a return and meets 19-year-old Zibby, a sophomore studying drama, whom he falls in love with, less sci-fi and more romance.

The Time Traveller’s Wife (2009)

It’s official, Rachel McAdam loves time travel films, but here she is again with underrated original Hulk Eric Bana, who finds he can travel in time and visit Rachel at various points in her timeline, but there is no control over the jumps, so things don’t go as smooth as you might think.

The movie was so popular they made a TV show out of it, so you can check both out if you like.

Ruby Sparks (2012)

Starring unlikely Riddler Paul Dano, this is the story of struggling novelist Calvin that goes to therapy and ends up creating a character that he falls in love with.

So strong is the belief that his fantasy character appears in front of him, and no, it’s not Hobbes, but Ruby.

Palm Springs (2020)

A wedding, two protagonists, an arrow, and a time loop make up this entry starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, stuck in a paradox, and trying to figure a way out.

The emphasis here is on the sci-fi premise, and this is definite if you have to pick just one from our list.

Your Name (2016)

This beautifully animated and scored anime follows a young couple that swaps bodies and finds they can communicate with each other across space.

There is so much more to this production, but if you enjoyed About Time, why not try something different but the same?

The Age of Adeline (2015)

A bittersweet entry to round things off here, the premise has Adaline, played by Blake Lively, being involved in an accident that stops her aging at 29 years old.

Adaline is a constant in a changing world until she meets Ellis, and things start to get complicated.
