At the center of the Netflix miniseries, The Nurse, is Christina Aistrup Hansen.
The four-part Danish miniseries is adapted from the book of the same title by Kristian Corfixen and tells the disturbing story of newly graduated nurse Pernille Kurzmann Larsen, who begins to suspect that a celebrated senior colleague, Christina Aistrup Hansen, is killing her patients.
Sadly, this scenario has played out many times with true crime documentaries covering the incidents.
In 2022, a similar case would be brought to fictional form, and this would also appear on Netflix as a feature-length film titled The Good Nurse.
Of course, people are always interested in the aftermath of these situations, so this article is here to discuss where is Christina Aistrup Hansen now.
Who is Christina Aistrup Hansen?
Christina Aistrup Hansen was born in 1984 and is a former Danish nurse who worked at the Nykobing Falster Hospital in the southern Danish city of Nykobing Falster.
Oddly, very little else is known about Christina, but it does appear that she was popular and well-respected in her workplace.
What did Christina Aistrup do?
Christina was responsible for the murders of four patients and sentenced to prison for life. The nurse gave sick and weak patients at the hospital where she worked lethal doses of morphine and diazepam that would lead to their death. She also gave her 7-year-old daughter strong prescription sleeping medication.
Eventually, the truth of what the nurse was doing would be revealed, and Christina was sentenced to life imprisonment.
It would be one of her colleagues, Pernille Kurzmann Larsen, who started having some suspicions about the events at the hospital. She would share her fears with her boyfriend, Dr. Niels Lunden, and they would eventually contact the police.
Christina Aistrup Hansen was arrested shortly after.
She was found guilty of the murders of Arne Herskov, Viggo Holm Petersen, and Anna Lise Poulsen and the attempted murder of another patient named Maggi. However, the Danish High Court reduced her sentence to twelve years as the court wasn’t convinced that the drugs injected by Christina were the sole cause of death for the patients.
Where is Christina Aistrup Hansen now?
Currently, Christina is in a Danish prison serving her sentence. At her trial, Hansen proved she suffered from a histrionic personality disorder.
This condition is an attention-seeking disorder that leads to violent self-absorption, narcissism, and actions arranged to make them the center of attention.
This was used to reduce the life sentence initially given to her.
Is Christina Aistrup Hansen still in prison?
Yes, she is still serving the twelve-year reduced sentence.
We really enjoyed the film, but were disappointed when we read that the nuse who committed such dreadful crimes got away with such a light sentence, also that the whistle blower nurse was shunned by all the staff that still did not support her and left the hospital.. All credit to the nurse who apparently stayed in the hospital.. She is a person to be admired .
12 years for FOUR murders….talk about leniency. She shouldn’t see the light of day….
. never should see a light of day even through the window . Rott in hell May someone do to you what you have done to those innocent souls
The thing that many people forget is that she was only charged with the murders that happened on that one night shift. She has probably killed many more all those years she was active at the hospital. Maybe even 50+ people. Absolutely disgusting psychopath. She should never ever leave the prison again.
According to this film, she killed a lot more than the 3 men she was arrested for..There were 22 deaths on her watch over the years, but apparently , it was not possiible without evidence to include these deaths..And yes, her reduced sentence is a travesty of justice but. Sweden Denmark and Norway are countries with very little violence in their societies, not like the United States.. They have a much more humane attitude toward men and women who commit serious crimes. because they are not exposed to a large crimial element.. They are small countries with fairly homogenous societies and appear to have tight knit supportive communities…
Good acting and storyline, kept me engaged the entire time.
What happened to the supervisors or whomever was in charge of the hospital? Curious if they have created a system of controls?
I thought theJustice system in the United States was bad
I was so sad to hear that Christina got such a light sentence at the end after killing hundreds of people. What a sicko I hope she also never sees her child again she is a psychopath. But I really enjoyed the series it was really really good!
Something is really wrong with the staff at that hospital for being anger with the nurse that caught her. I totally agree she should be admired and considered a hero!!! That was a hard hard task for her but she stood her ground and got her locked up. 12 years is a slap on the wrist
What i would like to know is when Christina is released from prison at the age of 42, will she be allowed to be a nurse again?!
I’d like to know if the Hospital and the Danish Medical Board/Authorities have stepped up their game and implemented changes to their systems so this cannot happen again?!
I hope the families sued the hospital as they were just as guilty as Christina!!
Seen the movie I read up on this sicko path can’t believe she only got1 12 years .
Absolutely ridiculous! This nurse murders innocent people. Probably way more than 4! And gets 12 years!!!??? People have been in prison longer than that on a weed charge. Hell, she will only be what 42 or 43 when she gets out???? She will still have a lifetime ahead of her!
I wonder what the death statistics are now since she is no longer there?
Christina Hansen should be given a dose of the medicine she gave to those unsuspecting patients. Satan awaits her arrival.
The Nurse should not see light again. Smh. And society is so screwed up, it seems as if people always cling to what’s bad than what’s right. Look at how her other Nurse colleagues treated her after she reported the issue!!! They even resigned later…. currently the Nurse that reported the incident is the only Nurse from that batch of Nurses employed during that time of the psychopath Christine. That’s why in my opinion s friend or 2 is ok on the job, but not a click (A whole bunch of friends)
What a gripping movie.I am from India and if it were not for NetFlix we wouldn’t have had an opportunity to see this movie which I understand is based on true story.
