We discuss 10 TV Shows like The Terror you must watch. Add these well-recommended series to your watch list.

The Terror from 2018 was a horror anthology series created by David Kajganich and adapted from a book of the same name written by Dan Simm. The story centers around two ships belonging to the Royal Navy, HMS Erebus, and HMS Terror.

The captain of HMS Erebus is Sir John Franklin, on what is considered to be his last expedition before he retires. The second season tells a different story, set in World War Two and focusing on events after the bombing of Pearl Harbour.

Horror anthology has taken many forms over the years, and this article will provide you with ten shows similar to The Terror that you must watch.

10 TV Shows like The Terror

Masters of Horror (2005)

This amazing and little-known show devoted each episode to a different director, and of course, they all played to their strengths, delivering some great anthology horror thrills.

With names such as Dario Argento, and John Carpenter, whose episode Cigarette Burns was particularly disturbing, attached, you can imagine some of the twisted nightmares that this show produced.

Channel Zero (2016)

Created by Nick Antosca, this horror anthology also devotes a season to a story.

Season One is called Candle Cove; Season Two was No-End House, Season Three gave us Butcher’s Block, and Season Four was The Dream Door.

The show had positive reviews over its four seasons and is a must-watch for fans of this genre.

Penny Dreadful (2014)

The sensational Eva Green starred in this period drama horror that would use some well-known literary characters in storylines throughout its run.

Look for Dracula, Victor Frankenstein, and Henry Jekyll being pulled out of the public domain and into a whole new world of modern TV horror in this innovative show that showed us what Universal’s Dark Universe could have been.

Tales from The Darkside (1984)

From the mind of George Romero, this beloved anthology horror show presented us with short horror stories, usually with a sting in the tale.

Four seasons and 94 episodes of Ghosts and Monsters puts this on par with some of the greatest horror TV of all time.

Tales From The Crypt (1989)

Based on the EC comics, banned after the comic book purge of the fifties leading to the comic code authority, this star-studded and over-the-top horror anthology would hit the ground running, attracting some huge names in front of the camera and behind it.

Seven seasons and some of the most horrific stories ever witnessed on TV make this a firm favorite for horror fans everywhere.

Slasher (2016)

This Netflix original series was created by Aaron Martin, the show who wanted this particular anthology to mix a whodunnit story with a slasher-style story.

A group of people trapped in a hostile environment fighting against an outside influence trying to kill them sounds like The Terror, so Slasher’s similar premise safely puts it on this list.

The Last Ship (2014)

From a novel by William Brinkley, this TNT show follow a crew of a military ship, just like The Terror, but in a different time zone.

A post-apocalyptic world, a deadly virus that has wiped out most of humanity, and the last US warship make up the high-concept premise as the team on board try to find a cure for the disease.

Five great seasons, mostly well-received, made up this run.

Castle Rock (2018)

Take the stories of Stephen King, add top TV talents like J.J. Abrams and an A-list cast, and you have Castle Rock.

Despite drawing heavily on the works of King and re-using some of his most iconic characters, such as Annie Wilkes, Hulu would cancel the show after two seasons.

Fortitude (2015)

Tone-wise, this British psychological horror story is very similar to The Terror.

Set on the fictional Norwegian Arctic island of Fortitude, the show was created by Simon Donald.

Season one did well, leading to a 10-episode second season, then a final third series made up of only four episodes.

Like a frozen Twin Peaks, with decaying infected carcasses, this gripping survivalist thriller is a must-see.

American Horror Story (2011)

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, this horror anthology would present a different story each season, often using the same cast in different roles for each season.

Haunted house, asylum, or a coven, the show would bring new horrors to the small screen.

Despite some mixed reviews in the later seasons, you can’t fault the tenacity of the production team, with eleven seasons under its belt.
