We discuss ten movies like Beautiful Disaster you must watch. Add these well-recommended films to your watch list.

The film Beautiful Disaster was adapted from a young-adult novel of the same name by Jamie McGuire. Directed by Roger Kumble, who adapted the script with McGuire, and starring heartthrob Dylan Sprouse, this romantic drama was released unusually for two nights only last month by Fathom Events.

The story follows Travis Maddox, who spends his nights fighting in underground boxing matches when he’s not charming the masses on campus during the day. However, after meeting Abby, a woman resistant to his charms, he makes a bet with her. If he loses his next match, he will go without sex for a month. If he wins, Abby must live in his apartment during the same time frame.

Beautiful Disaster, though, is much more than Summer Catch meets 40 Days and 40 Nights.

Without further ado, here is a list of similar movies to Beautiful Disaster, ones that combine that old classic theme of opposites attract in a romantic comedy or drama genre. Enjoy!

10 Movies like Beautiful Disaster

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

A millennial rom-com before young-adult romance movies were in vogue, 10 Things I Hate About You stars Julia Stiles as Kat, who falls victim to her brother’s plan of working around her father’s strict rules about dating.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays that brother, and he convinces the free-spirited bad boy Patrick (played by Heath Ledger) to romance the uptight Kat.

A Tourist’s Guide to Love (2023)

You may discount A Tourist’s Guide to Love; no one will blame you. However, this Netflix romance film has the ability to coax the approval out of you with the best of intentions, even if the enjoyment comes in spasmodic, charismatic bursts because of the genuine opposites attract chemistry between Rachel Leigh Cook and Scott Ly.

All the Bright Places (2020)

This streaming young-adult romance stars Elle Fanning and Justice Smith. The story follows two teens who appear to have nothing in common but form a connection because of shared trauma from their past experiences. Based on the novel by Jennifer Niven, this romantic drama provides an appropriate depiction of teenagers’ struggles with mental health.

Along for the Ride (2022)

Sofia Alvarez’s adaptations of the To All the Boys I Loved Before franchise have been word-of-mouth smash hits for the streaming giant. She was a natural choice to bring Sarah Dessen’s beloved YA novel to life. What is refreshing about Alvarez’s adaptation of Dessen’s New York Times best-selling novel is that it captures the endless possibilities of youth between two opposite characters.

Bros (2022)

Bros is your classic opposites attract comedy, but what separates Billy Eichner’s film is that it was the first LGBTQ+ rom-com released by a big studio. Besides being a seminal moment in comedy history, Bros was one of the funniest comedies in years and had an eye-opening amount of poignant heart.

Chemical Hearts (2021)

Prime Video’s Chemical Hearts has an intriguing lead in Austin Abrams (Euphoria), who can be soulful and bring a sensitive intelligence to minor roles. However, this is a vehicle for Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart, and I mean this as a compliment when I say it’s one of the most minor eye-roll-inducing efforts the genre has produced in recent memory.

The Hating Game (2021)

This Peter Hutchings film was an adaptation of the book by Sally Thorne of the same name. Starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell is the classic friction-filled romance that leads to rivals that become attracted to each other. A must-watch for anyone who is a fan of romance films that start with enemies and end with a charming affair of the heart.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

A romantic comedy about an advice columnist who will do anything to get rid of a guy who looks just like Matthew McConaughey is enjoyable. When you combine McConaughey’s Ben trying to prove he can make any woman fall in love with him in ten days with Kate Hudson, general hilarity ensues.

The Lost Husband (2020)

I love fishing, and it’s a lot like that when sitting down to select movies nowadays. Instead of fishing for trout, you ultimately come up with trope after trope that you keep tossing back. To my surprise, the romantic drama The Lost Husband has a healthy dose of sentimentality, but at least I caught a quietly charming one.

Love & Gelato (2022)

Halt & Catch Fire’s effortlessly charming Susanna Skaggs stars in Love & Gelato, a Netflix adaptation of the New York Times bestseller by Jenna Evans Welch. This YA movie has an endearing romance with Skaggs playing uptight Lina and the Italian adorkable Lorenzo, both charming enough to make you care about the story.
