Summary

The most vivid and gorgeous nature documentary with a high production value to fully explore the lives of these animals we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting.

We review the Apple TV Plus documentary series Prehistoric Planet Season 2, released on May 22nd, 2023.

Prehistoric Planet season two rolls out a week-long event on Apple TV Plus that will go into extraordinary detail about the dinosaurs people have grown to love. If you’re a history buff and have always been fascinated with dinosaurs, then this is right up your alley.

The reason why this series does well is because of the award-winning team behind it. Not only are Jon Favreau and Mike Gunton Executive Producers on the project, but the BBC Studios Natural History Unit is behind this as well.

You’ll hear a familiar voice in Sir David Attenborough narrating the project and a score by Hans Zimmer that elevates the intensity of certain moments. Apple TV Plus put a lot into this, and you can tell by the quality of the images on the screen. Everything looks so life-like, and it’s an in-depth look at what it was like with these prehistoric creatures walking the Earth.

Prehistoric Planet Season 2 Review

Season two of Prehistoric Planet is just as good as season one because of the way each episode is structured. This series is unique because it has a CG reimagining of the dinosaurs instead of actual footage of wildlife with other animals.

It plays out as a documentary, but it feels close to watching something like Ice Age or The Land Before Time narratively in how they explore the lives of the dinosaurs.

In this season, they explore five new habitats; the active volcanoes in India, the marshlands of Madagascar, the deep oceans near North America, and so much more.

Season two dives into the psychology of dinosaur behavior and how they operate their daily lives. It’s interesting to see how they deal with other animals around them and other species of dinosaurs. Not only do they show actual recreated footage that looks incredible, but they do go through the history with the fossils they’ve found.

Is Prehistoric Planet Season 2 good or bad?

Prehistoric Planet is stunning. It is just gorgeous to watch because of what they re-created. If you are a history buff, you will appreciate exploring each habitat and the dinosaurs living there.

The production value is high, and you can tell that they put so much work into recreating these animals. It’s an impressive documentary series simply because of how realistic all of this looks. At times it can be scary to see how far technology has come, but it’s also fascinating to see what it can bring back from lost history.

Is Prehistoric Planet Season 2 Worth Watching?

Prehistoric Planet is worth the watch because of how detailed each episode is. There are hundreds of dinosaurs being born and evolving throughout the series, and it’s unbelievable to see them up close. From newborns feeding to dinosaurs hunting for food, each setting for these animals is incredible to watch.

It’s nice to see that each episode highlights a specific grouping of animals – much like season one – so they can explore their behavior in full detail. The CG does get you lost in the world with these creatures, and it feels like a true escape.
