In 2008, the anime Spice and Wolf had two seasons, and the series ended in 2009. Each episode was 24 minutes long, and it was a thrilling adventure. The series starred Jun Fukuyama, Ami Koshimizu and J. Michael Tatum.

In this series, audiences meet Kraft Lawrence (Fukuyama), who goes from town to town to make profits as a traveling merchant with the help of a wolf deity named Holo.

Between the three characters, there were some issues, and their dynamic changed throughout the series. So not only did you have a fun adventure, but you had exciting characters with good banter to carry out the story.

Even though it is categorized as a romance on some sites, the adventure does come to the forefront, and there’s a sprinkle of romance in between. It almost plays out like a video game because of the side quests and what Kraft has to acquire on the journey he goes on.

Of course, there are challenges, but he overcomes them throughout both seasons.

The series listed below are strong animes that have a nice mixture of romance and adventure. The best anime series have well-written characters and a true hero’s journey. Each series have exciting journeys and is fast-paced.

Katanagatari (2010) 

Kyotoryuu is a legendary fencing school. Shichika and his sister Nanami are the sole descendants of the Yasuri household. He must go on a journey searching for twelve perfected deviant blades, and he leaves his island home. He has been isolated there because of his status and must complete this quest.

Log Horizon (2013) 

Creator Elder Tale is an online fantasy RPG that has become popular worldwide. But once there is an expansion pack that comes with the game and “Novasphere Pioneer” is installed, thousands of players in Japan are trapped inside the video game.

There is one character named Shiroe who is an introvert with social anxiety, but to save everyone, he forms a team and navigates this new journey by interacting with others.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride (2017) 

In The Ancient Magus’ Bride, a 15-year-old named Hatori Chise is lost and without hope because she has no family. In order to live her life and do something with it, she hesitantly finds work with Elias Ainsworth and becomes his new apprentice. He teaches her about life, but more importantly, he becomes a companion for her to feel safe.

Death Note (2006) 

Death Note is one of the greatest anime of all time. There have been remakes, but this adaptation is by far the best. An intelligent high school student goes on a secret crusade to eliminate criminals from the world after discovering a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written into it.

Eden of the East (2009) 

Even though his anime begins with a horrible terrorist attack on November 22, 2010, the people of Japan forget entirely it even happened. It was known as “Careless Monday,” as the months pass, it was like the event wasn’t a big deal.

It then switches gears into a comedy when Saki Morimi goes on a graduation trip to Washington, DC. She gets into trouble and encounters a strange man who is naked, holding a gun, and has a phone charged with a lot of digital cash.

Kino’s Journey (2003)

Young world-weary sharpshooter girl Kino and her talking motorcycle Hermes travel around her unusual world. They visit different cities for days to learn about their culture, history, and ruling philosophy. This series is adorable and educational while offering some intense action scenes as Kino encounters people on her journey.

Wolf’s Rain (2003) 

In a post-apocalyptic future where humans live in domed cities surrounded by wasteland, wolves are assumed to be two hundred years extinct. Living in an enclosed space is always scary, but even stepping out is creepy when creatures are on the loose.

Crest of the Stars (1999) 

Jinto is a polite young man whose world was overrun by the most extensive empire in the galaxy canned, the Abh Empire. He meets the lovely Lafiel, who he befriends. If you want strong character dynamics that match those of Kraft and the crew, this is one to watch.

Bakemonogatari (2009) 

Koyomi Araragi used to be a vampire, and now he’s human again. He was cured of his vampirism and had been helping other supernatural creatures with their problems.

As he meets new people, he becomes invested in their lives and feels this connection. Even when he uncovers secrets from the people he knows, it changes his perspective on life.
