The reality machine keeps on going, producing series after series of real-life singles looking for love, usually in all the wrong places. Netflix loves to make them, and they seem to be looking to crack a formula, with entry after entry of the shows.
They must be drawing an audience, though, as we all know that Netflix will cancel anything after one series if it isn’t making the grade.
So with the schedule filled with the likes of Selling Sunset, Love Is Blind, and Queer Eye, it seems there is still a void in the lives of millions of people worldwide that want to see people getting together.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love is actually a spin-off of the series The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On.
As the title suggests, the show has a queer lineup this time, but the premise is the same. A collection of couples arrive together, and one member of each couple has given the other an ultimatum to get married.
The couples then split and date other participants, even going as far as to participate in two trial marriages, one with their original partner and another with a new partner included in the show. After they have been put through this emotional and psychological trauma, they have to pick whether to get married, break up or continue their relationship with their new partner. Wow!
The first outing of The Ultimatum in 2022 had some mixed reviews and currently has a rating of 5.5/10 on IMDB. It seems that people find the show quite cringe-inducing, but in reality shows, that is not often a bad thing.
However, at the other end of the scale, you can find that the whole thing proved too distasteful for viewers, with some saying it was toxic and filled with negativity.
It seems that reality shows will always be divisive. Are the people applying to be on these types of programs doing it for the suggested reasons, or are they hoping that the exposure will cause them to explode on social media?

It’s too early to call if there will be another season of the reality series. At the time of writing, there are still episodes of the show to drop, so Netflix will not have all the relevant data to decide if things are going well for this show.
It may be a while before an official announcement about the series’ future plans is released, as the tenth episode does not drop until June 7th, 2023.
Suppose you have found yourself addicted to the show. In that case, it might be encouraging to know that the original The Ultimatum may reappear with the premise under a different sub-title, as it does seem to have an audience out there.
