Perry Mason has been remade time and time again, and there’s a reason for that. It is still one of the best legal dramas that have stuck out through the years. In booming 1932 Los Angeles, a down-and-out defense attorney takes on the case of a lifetime.

The story of Perry Mason has been worked on before, but HBO has never gotten its hands on the story. HBO has a way of making magic happen with different stories. Even if they feel familiar, their series still somehow feel refreshing to watch because of the time and care put into the work.

Babylon Berlin (2017) 

Colognian commissioner Gereon Rath moves to Berlin, the epicenter of political and social changes in the Golden Twenties. If you’re a fan of political dramas, then this series goes in-depth about the shifts that happened in the Golden Twenties.

Mob City (2013) 

In 1947, in Los Angeles, Cop Joe Teague walked the line between the LAPD, led by William Parker, and the mob, led by Bugsy Siegel. This series does capture the best and worse aspects of the Mob and what everyone does for their family.

Fargo (2014) 

Various chronicles of deception, intrigue, and murder in and around frozen Minnesota. Yet all of these tales mysteriously lead back one way or another to Fargo, North Dakota. Joel and Ethan Coen’s film garnered critical acclaim, so years later, they decided to make a television series. It definitely worked better in a television format, and that’s why this show was praised.

Better Call Saul (2015) 

The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the years leading up to his fateful run-in with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. For Breaking Bad fans, Better Call Saul was just an extension of the beloved show, and the love for Bob Odenkirk is on another level for this show about criminal lawyers.

Prodigal Son (2019) 

Malcolm Bright, one of the best criminal psychologists, uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes. Getting into the psychology of criminals has always been a hot topic, and people have enjoyed watching professionals dive into these stories. It may appear scary, but it’s important to understand what is happening in people’s minds.

How to Get Away with Murder (2014) 

A group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change their lives. This series’s first couple of seasons were fantastic because the writing for the murders and how they were connected to the Keating Five were so intricate.

Viola Davis was a knockout in this series and is the main reason why people would keep coming back.

Defending Jacob (2020) 

An assistant DA’s world is shattered when his beloved son gets charged with murder. After a career as an Avenger, Chris Evans takes on a more dramatic role as a father trying to get his son acquitted in this limited series.

True Detective (2014) 

A seasonal anthology series in which police investigations unearth the personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within and outside the law. Having an anthology series surrounding different cases and detectives was a smart move on HBO’s part. There’s the ability to show different perspectives each season, which works with thrillers.
