The Clearing is starting to take shape within its story by showing the history behind Amy becoming Freya. Also, we see the cops raid The Kindred household leading to the kids being taken and Hannah and Henrik heading to jail. Here is everything that went down in The Clearing Season 1 Episode 3.
- A young Freya is sitting in her car on the brink of a massive breakdown because her baby Max won’t stop crying. As a result, we see Freya scream back at the baby and leave it in the car.
- Upon returning home from picking up Billy, a couple arrives to discuss coming in to measure the second bedroom. They recently purchased the house, causing Freya to freak out.
- After confronting her mom, she realizes that it was Dr. Lathan who was the person that sold the house. He tells her that she should’ve seen it coming.
- At dinner, Amy tells the other kids that Sara gets to eat whatever she wants whenever she wants. This pisses off Hannah and Tamsin, causing them to throw her out.
- Amy asks Dr. Lathan about what it was like dropping off Sara and if he saw the things she mentioned. And he tells her that it is dark outside and couldn’t see.
- We discover that Matriah has someone inside the police station when Detective Colin shows up to tell her the cops are on the verge of raiding them.
- Freya sees the white van outside of Billy’s school and chases it down, but it bolts. On her way home, she realizes that someone is following her, and it is Wayne.
- Wayne tells Freya that Max went missing and wants to know if she spoke to him. She hadn’t heard from her, but it made her realize she might be the person in the van.
- Upon arriving home, Max was outside waiting for her. Max confirms Freya’s suspicion that she was watching as she said her father told her Freya wasn’t ready to be her mom. Freya tells her she couldn’t handle being her mother at the time.
- Amy ran away from the house but got caught by the cops on a foot chase. So, while she is knocked out in the hospital, Joe finds her journal leading to getting what he needs to get a warrant.
- The cops arrive to raid The Kindred household. Because of this, the cops take all of the kids. Unfortunately, Joe was unable to find Sara anywhere in the house.
- As the episode ends, present-day Anton shows up at Matriah’s house.

The next episode is scheduled to release on Hulu on June 7, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). Episode 4 is titled “The Foundlings” and will have a run time of 48 minutes.
